I have Vicoprofen (7.5mg Hydrocodone/200mg Ibuprofen) and Vicodin (5mg Hydrocodone/500mg APAP) pills but I never took them at the same time. They share the same narcotic so I doubt the effects will be any different than taking the same pills? I'm more concerned about the IBU and APAP components on my body under heavy use.

What I know basically is that IBU is hard on the stomach/kidneys and APAP is hard on the liver. Can taking tylenol and alieve at the same time tax your body more than if you stuck with one or the other?

Also: Can I get serotonin syndrome from a 6-8 pills/day vicoprofen habit?

^ If you take the recommended maximum dose or under (4000mg APAP and 1200mg ibuprofen) then you should be fine. They won't exacerbate each other unless you take huge amounts of APAP, then it can act in the same way as ibuprofen - but by that stage you woulkd have more pressing concerns (like severe/fatal liver damage) to worry about!

Hydrocodone is mildly serotinergic, but you won't get serotonin syndrome from that dose. The risk develops when you mix it with other serotinergic drugs, and even then it is fairly low - but something to bear in mind.

I have an ibuprofin script in front of me prescribing 2400mg daily. Just throwing that out there (given you 1200mg figure - I'm now rather curious).

Interesting, the recommended max may differ from country to country :)

I have an appointment with him next Friday.. Do you have any Brit Lit (hehe) that states this as the suggested maximum daily dose? These don't really do squat, and if I'm being prescribed a dangerous level of the chemical, I'd like to bring it up.

Thanks!

Aha just looked into it, for non-prescribed ibuprofen (bought from a chemist or whatever) here they recommend 1200mg but for prescribed doses it can be up to 3200mg according to my copy of the BNF (wikipedia agrees) so you should be okay :)

If you're taking that much daily you might want to think about something to protect your stomach (gastroprotection) like a PPI such as omeprazole - I'd ask your doctor about that - as ibuprofen has the potential to damage your stomach lining. If you get indigestion then this is especially important :)
