Quick note: this is not my report.

I'm sharing this link here, because I thought that it was interesting reading a carefully crafted, detailed, and reflective report on a commonly used drug. I think it provides a little bit of insight into the role of our own carefully managed attention in the manufacture of our narratives about our experiences. How much of this experience can be attributed to the drug and how much is the aesthetics of the ritual, the cultivation of attention, or the mindset of the writer? I think placebo and nocebo effects are a part of this and other reports, but not reducible to them.

I once made a vile 700ml brew from an entire large box of black tea which inducing a nice, trembling panic attack. Must have been like 1500mg of caffeine. Maybe more. I started drooling.

What was worse is that before it really kicked in I drove to a bookstore to do some shopping and got into a fender bender in the parking lot due to the disorientation. Oddly enough i don't think the woman who i bumped into had insurance. She got out for a second and said something i didnt understand and then drove off.

As bad as that was it wasnt as bad as the time i randomly jammed most of a tin of Copenhagen chewing tobacco into my mouth (the first time i tried it). That was also a drooling mess but i felt like i wanted to die it was so horrible. I'm a bright guy but a poor decision maker.

You were what is called 'tea drunk' from the super strong black tea.

People make super strong black tea this way in Russia, and former Soviet countries, both in prisons, and when it is cold and work has to be done. It is called Chifir (Russian: чифи́рь, romanized: čifir', or alternatively, чифи́р)

I am not Eastern European, but when I was a student twice a year when I had work that needs to be done-I sometimes have the bad habit of waiting until the deadline for work to be done and starting it or finishing it the night before but I have gotten a lot better at not doing this as I get older-so I would make black tea like this, drink it plain, re-steep the leaves, drink a liter or two of it through the night, along with water and food, and stay up for 24-48 hours.

South Asians also love super strong black tea or chai but they boil it down for 10-15 mins so it is maybe 60ml with spices, sugar, and milk.

I have had Pu-erh but I never bought the super expensive cakes and I just made it 4-5 times.

I did not write this trip report but if you drink a lot of pu-erh or any black tea the effects are similar.
