Once in a while I get this feeling that my heart begins to pounding really really really fast and I get shakey after drinking coffee.
I usually add a lot of sugar, but not that much. I want to prevent this from happening again. Is the caffeine or the sugar causing this reaction sometimes or the combination of both?
I felt like that I was "high" on something. My heart begin pounding like crazy.
It felt like that I was on a marijuana "high" which tends to raise the heart beat for a short period of time.

I usually drink my coffee fast.

I tend to get this feeling once in a while after drinking coffee with sugar.

What I do, is I drink a liter of water and then take some Xanax along with it and it stops.

But usually drinking cold water really fast relieves this reaction.

What this can be?

Pls explain.

It's a combination of both. Probably the caffeine doing the majority but there's a reason why energy drinks (which are also sugar+caffeine) cause the same reaction.

Can this be fatal or not? Can it result in a heart attack?
It does not accur all the time, sometimes I add 2 of those long strong instant coffee paks instead of one. And then add sugar.

But like I said, drinking cold water really fast helps and by taking Xanax. But I was scared. Should I be worried just in case it happens again? It only lasts about 5 minutes after taking Xanax or drinking lots of water.

But I tried weed back in the day, and it did felt like I was high on weed. The really really fast heart rate which weed does for about 5 minutes.

This is not the "typical" fast heart rate when I drink coffee normally just to get me awake and alert. This was REALLY REALLY fast. This was like a "rush" so to speak...

The caffeine would be causing the increased heart rate/blood pressure, unless you're diabetic. If you have Diabetes it could very well be the sugar in the coffee that's causing your increased heart rate.
If you don't have Diabetes, it's the Caffeine. Sugar doesn't cause a rush.

Caffeine consumption is generally regarded as safe, but there's reasonable levels to stay within as there is with all drugs.

I've noticed this happening more often if I've been consuming moderate to heavy amounts of coffee for several days, as opposed to being used more sparingly.

At least for me, if I haven't had coffee(or any caffeine) in 2-3 days, that 1st half pot or so is a noticeable mood lift, almost a slight euphoria.
If I drink coffee for several days+evenings, that euphoria is gone, it's more a matter of getting back to a speedy baseline, and i get shitty panic attacks :):\:|:(:! /cardiac symptoms.

Sugar is bad for you, but a lot of the energy drink advertising and general misinformation has popularized the idea that people crash because of sugar, not caffeine. You definitely crash from caffeine. Sugar can mess up your blood sugar levels and do anything from moderate hunger/fatigue, to diabetic like symptoms depending on your sensitivity and health. Moderation is key with sugar and for some it should be totally minimized. If you want a sweet coffee for some reason and you are an active, fit person, it's not gonna be a big deal. Morning coffee means you just went without sugar for 8hrs+. In general though the less sugar the better.
