Caffeine chest pains

I keep getting chest pains when I drink caffeine--on both the right and left sides, but usually the left first and usually one at a time. I rarely drink enough to experience any noticeable increase in heart rate, and exercise does not produce the same pain despite causing some fairly strong palpitations, so I don't think it's a heart issue. The pain is very minor and not bothersome by itself, but I'm concerned about it because of the location.

Anybody know what might be causing this? I've heard it could be lung inflammation or heartburn, but my internet searches have not produced any definitive answers.

Keep in mind that I still have almost no tolerance. Any common side effects will be fully felt

EDIT: They start as soon as I drink it, so there's probably some psychological component.

could possibly have a little to do with the heart but likely not, plenty of muscles get all tight and spasm-y when on doses of stimulants more than your body is used to

At first I was scared they were heart attacks, but the lack of palpitations and the fact that I always recovered made me think otherwise. People do not normally survive seven of those with no apparent damage.

Building some tolerance would probably stop them, but that runs the risk of physical dependence. I guess I'll have to live with them.

I'd be more inclined to think its esophageal spasms, coffee is harsh on the stomach, especially if you are not use to it. It might cause some esophageal reflux and spasms which will cause chest pain in various areas of the chest. An acidic taste in the back of the mouth is a sure sign of reflux which causes the painful spasms. Try an acid reducer, zantac or tagament, shortly before drinking the coffee.

I actually don't drink coffee. I get my caffeine from Mountain Dew and energy drinks. Those do sometimes upset my stomach, though. I'll consider an antacid.
