Misc caffeine as an anxiolytic

It acts as a competitive inhibitor at adenosine receptors, but doesn't reduce adenosine activity. Not meaning to be a smartass, just trying to clear things up. Activity basically means concentration and in no way does caffeine reduce GABA or adenosine levels. Not sure how exactly GABAergic transmission is inhibited though.

I think what he was saying is that long term, high-dose usage of caffeine might lead to an upregulation of GABAr's, while single dose use would indeed exacerbate benzodiazepine withdrawls. That being said, I agree in that I strongly doubt it would be very useful for battling benzo tolerance.

Well if it ain't causing any trouble, there's no justification for a diagnosis.

i didn't want to get specific but competitive inhibition = reduced activity. either that or i should've worded that differently.

anyway, took 4 mg clonazepam today in the AM to see if 5 days on memantine and caffeine helped my tolerance and i actually feel a buzz. last time i tried 8 mg and didn't feel much but nystagmus.

not sure if it works or maybe i'm just one of those people who's tolerance lowers significantly. many factors including my epilepsy would come into play here...

That's an interesting theory. I've read that caffeine exacerbates benzodiazepine withdrawal symptoms. I always wondered if the general CNS excitability caffeine causes could somehow speed up the healing process in that it would force the brain to adapt to the excitation by naturally increasing inhibitory functions (sort of the same way a direct benzodiazepine antagonist has been shown to reverse benzo tolerance, even reset it to baseline levels). Probably not a recommended strategy for people with benzo dependence issues however.

long term caffeine use increases density of GABA receptors in the brain. in other words more binding sites for benzos. in my opinion it feels more like i added a different dimension to today's benzo buzz... then again i am on a dissociative (memantine) albeit only 10 mg.

the link in the first page explains how xanthines can potentiate diazepam in chronic use, in MICE however.

This is a typical reaction for ADD. Higher doses of stimulants will act the same for everyone.

Low doses just adjust our dopamine transmission to almost optimal levels. Higher doses kick dopamine into high gear just like everyone else's.

Also same thing for norepinephrine... These two (dopamine and norepinephrine) tend to go hand in hand in stimulants for some reason... One always effects the other.

Because I am a black man with an afro who does go by that nickname... LMAO

I made that avatar when burger king had that become a Simpson from your picture shit on their website

lmao i barely read this. you really go by psychedelic jay? i knew a big andy/psychedelic andy, his brain is cooked from heroin now... :/

Definitely true in humans also.

I wound up being a rare case of full blown caffeine psychosis earlier this year, and got scripted klonopin (plus antipsychotic/mood stabilizer). 1mg was quite a strong dose for me for the first couple months on it.

And for those wondering... I was on 4-5g/day of caffeine for months. I had only been on the lookout for cardiac problems (which I had none), not going nuts. I wasn't addicted per se, but was abusing it to stay up around the clock for school for several days at once. It was not anxiolytic in those doses. In fact I was suffering from severe paranoid delusions by the end, and running though utility tunnels at night wearing body armor while high as fuck... :sus:

Basically less euphoric meth without the physical dependance (as much) when you take it like that.

I've scaled back caffeine use a lot now with no lasting problems.
