It acts as a competitive inhibitor at adenosine receptors, but doesn't reduce adenosine activity. Not meaning to be a smartass, just trying to clear things up. Activity basically means concentration and in no way does caffeine reduce GABA or adenosine levels. Not sure how exactly GABAergic transmission is inhibited though.
I think what he was saying is that long term, high-dose usage of caffeine might lead to an upregulation of GABAr's, while single dose use would indeed exacerbate benzodiazepine withdrawls. That being said, I agree in that I strongly doubt it would be very useful for battling benzo tolerance.
Well if it ain't causing any trouble, there's no justification for a diagnosis.
i didn't want to get specific but competitive inhibition = reduced activity. either that or i should've worded that differently.
anyway, took 4 mg clonazepam today in the AM to see if 5 days on memantine and caffeine helped my tolerance and i actually feel a buzz. last time i tried 8 mg and didn't feel much but nystagmus.
not sure if it works or maybe i'm just one of those people who's tolerance lowers significantly. many factors including my epilepsy would come into play here...
