after 7 years of renting boards, im gonna fn buy one.

it has to be a used one and ive checked up a few on the net. ive found a couple Burton (expensive but i know they are good) and also found a K2 at a decent price.

what are the guidelines when it comes to brand? does K2 suck? Salomon? Santa Cruz? i rode a Rossignol earlier this winter and that was a fucking dream! i asked the guy renting them for the price and it was like 5 times what i could afford.

if it might help; i like cruise alot and doin a few jumps here and there, not much into "jibbing"..

thanks alot.
I.

check out palmer boards... i have a 162 classic i bought 3 years ago i absolutly love, and i dont see many people out there with palmer boards.. kinda like that... i think i'll always stick with a palmer board... also went with limited edition rossi boots and bindings... very happy with those aswell

i would suggest that you place brand pretty far down your list of criteria.

the absolutely best thing you can do is try as many boards as you can. that said, unless you ride a lot and catch a lot of demo days, it's likely not to be a very practical approach.

sounds to me like you want a pretty classic freeride board if you're not much into jibbing. perhaps the best thing to do would be to visit a shop so you can actually get your hands on the hard goods - check the differences in flex with your hands, feel the weight, etc.

that will allow you to narrow your choices down from thousands of boards to far fewer. that said, if you're buying used, you're not going to have the same selection to choose from but, if you're a proficient rider with 'all-mountain; needs as you seem to be, a lot of second hand boards will be a fine match for your requirements and all you'll really have to worry about will be gettign one the appropriate size and in decent condition with no major defects.

even though i made a caveat in the first paragraph about brand, it doesn't hurt to ask people what they ride and why they like it. just bear in mind that if somebody loves their board, that doesn't mean you will love the same board.

all the brands you mentioned in your original post have a reputation for making good snowboards.

[my customary-what-i-ride-pick is nidecker. i ride a nidecker platinum which is one of their all-mountain boards. i love it. while they're getting more popular, hardly anybody i meet has heard of nidecker but they make great gear. in particular, their bindings are solid. they are a good advert for not getting married to a brand first as i was unsure when i bought it (because i had never heard of them) but i love it.]

good luck.

sure, i decided on a K2 electra, 4 years old, that was sold on the net very cheap, still looked good and had been owned by some former bordercross champion.

not that im really sure what bordercrossing is but the board is a-ok, long and light.

thank yall for ideas.

no need to wear 'burton blinkers' when picking a board.

I'm part of the test group for K2/Ride and Salomon (I've been lucky enough to establish some good links in the industry!)

Burton offer good performance in some boards, bu as a general rule of thumb are a bit overpriced (well, in the UK at least).

Also, when you buy a board described as suitable for someone of an advanced level (ie burton custom/custom x), don't you get a little worried when someone who has only been boarding for 1 week can handle the board with no problems at all?

The reason is that burton are the KINGS of marketing. They market to the people who read magazines more than they actually board. Buying into the dream. They sell boards capable of being ridden by anyone (ie people who think they are great because they have boarded for a week) and are willing to spend loads on the image.

Don't get me wrong, I've owned and loved several burtons, but pound for pound they just don't match up to other manufacturers IMO.

My wardrobe is currently filled with these (another perk!)

I've also got a Ride WWW which isn't in the photo. it's my baby board! I think it's a 154. Great for mucking around on.

Salomon Loft - easily the fastest board edge-to-edge i have ever ridden

Ride Bezerker - proper mental park board!

K2 Zeppelin - I use it for powder days, but it's an all round classic

Rome Anthem - for nailing the piste, it's so fast and responsive it makes your eyes water (designed by a breakaway duo from burton)
