Busted with smack

Me and my girlfriend were just busted with about 6 bags (those funny little wax paper wraps found up here in RI), and a loaded rig.
We were found nodded out in a parked car and were administered Narcan and charged with felony possesion of Heroin. This is my first offense, im 19 and im on my way to rehab. Anyone have any idea of the penalties I might face?

Naaaa... you were noded in a car, loaded rig, and a few bags - not enough to cop a sales/traffic charge - you can easily pull off the junkie look... with no priors, you're looking at a few years probation max, and maybe a nice sized fine ...
Save your money, and don't bother with a lawyer... no atty will so much as talk to you for less then $500 - and it's going to get plead out - my best guess is felony posession, maybe a few counts, and it should be easy to get adjudication witheld on all counts ..
In the mean time, contact your PD and see if the state has filed any motions of intent..
And fix while ya can, because once yer on probation for heroin, they tend to surprise you with random tests at first - also stop shooting anywhere that will leave a noticible mark, as they will look for that...

blahblahblah, Im in RI, first offense, and i bought the needles at CVS. Thanks for the info PhreeX, but im not going to fix while I can because I got busted the second time I ever used dope, and I cant even "hit" myself.
I gotta say that heroin (I.V.) is really good feeling, but that Narcan shit is definetly NOT. Also, I was considering a voluntary rehab to beat the charge, do you think i need to? The only reason I would go is to avoid jail

Honestly, you do NOT need to drop $500-$2,000 on a lawyer for this.. there is no legal trickery going on.. this isn't something that a lawyer could really help you with much .. see, for a fine you may get a nice, round number - say $1000 - it's easier if you spend yer cash on that instead of a lawyer...
In this situation you're simply waiting for the state to make you an offer.. trust me, save your cash for fines, court costs, probation/rehab costs, and more then anything, DOPE COSTS!

If I was dishing out the penalties, I'd smack you around a few times for shooting up in a parked car. I'd ask you what you were thinking, but I'm pretty sure you've probably already asked yourself this a million times by now.
At any rate, I would pay money for a lawyer. Obviously he's not going to get you out of trouble, BUT a decent lawyer can really influence the sentence you will get. A good lawyer will provide tons and tons of information and present it pure and sweet like candy to the judge who is not absolutely, but MORE likely to give you a more lenient sentence.
That or you could say that actually uh what happened was uh like uh you got kidnapped because these people that were found with you were trying to like uh steal your car and like yeah and stuff so they shot you up with dope so you couldn't fight back and then they were big junkies so they shot up too, crazy man.
Okay, maybe not.

There is no point in getting a lawyer because the case is so cut and dry. What is he going to say? That wasn't your smack and needle? And if you plead not guilty and go to trial, you will pay out the ass for a lawyer, face stiffer penalties, and be found guilty anyway. Good luck.

There is no point in getting a lawyer, trust me, back when I was facing my trial I spent many, many days sitting in court and observing cases - for simple matters such as this, a lawyer isn't going to do anything more then review it, then end up waiting for a plea anyway, which you will then be told to take... going to trial over this? Ha! sorry, don't "fight the system" becuse the system doesnt play fair!

Again, you plea guilty. The lawyer comes in during the sentencing phase. If I was facing time, I'd rather gamble a few thousand on a lawyer even if I got out a month early. Even in county jail, a day feels like a week.

Bullshit!!!! get a lawyer now!!!!
Not only will he see if they didn't dot their I's and cross their T's but he will send the message to the prosecuter that you are willing to fight this thing. This makes the prosecuter ask the question "do I really want to waste all the tax payers money and all my time by dragging this out and going to court for this stupid offense?"
The lawyer will know what a good plea is, do you?
If you think guilt or innocece has anything to do with the justace system, you are clueless.
OJ's case was pretty cut and dry too.
If I had to mortgage my dick, I would hire the best lawyer I could find. I don't care if they had video of me doing the crime.

Be careful! Once you get busted, they love nothing more than to bust you again before your trial date comes up. They intentionally target recent offenders to bolster the original case and rheam out your ass.
