I have an extreme passion for music. I'm on xanax xr which is helping me a lot on a lot of aspects. Though it has become obvious to me that I do need something with an antideppressant effect with it. St. Johns works but I'm afraid it has some of the side effects of making music less appreciatiable (this is the side effect I hate more than ANY other side effect.) I was wondering about buspar because it seems to have some antideppressant effects and was on it with klonopin a while back and didn't notice a change in music appreciation I could recollect. What is anyone elses expeirence with this side effect and buspar, I know it targets serotonin like SSRIS and St Johns does but idk if because its not a reuptake inhibitor so maybe it won't have these negative effects on music? Let me know please (:. Thanks

When I was on it I did indeed find it effective for a time, after the initial side effects dissipated. But did find that I lost interest in many of the things I previously enjoyed. So IMO if you're looking to still greatly enjoy music the way you used to, this is a poor choice if you already are on a medication that is effectively treating your symptoms.

Buspirone isn't typically used as an ad. Its an anxiolytic, targeting 5ht1a. I'd stick with just meds prescribed. You prefer music over being adequately treated?

Dude to be honest, I prefer music over everything. Like when I was on beta blockers, they completely made me disinterested in music so I stopped them. Its a HUGE thing in my life man. I remember I had my zest for music back when I was terribly overmedicated (as I've always been) I was on lithium, klonopin 2.5mg a day, gabapentin 800mg t.I.d (then I went to 1200mg t.I.d) and I'm thinking maybe its because of the gabapentin. My doc currently says he would like to put me back on 1200mg gabapentin t.ik.d. and I've asked instead for an increase on the lyrica but he says with lyrica the dosage can't be anywhere as high as gabapentin. The fluctuating bioavailibilty of gabapentin makes me not want to get back on it. I miss music being my great escape and now that I've been taking st johns wort I think I'm losing interest again )): I'm also doing nuerofeedback and I see some interference with music appreciation there too (as well as annoying side effects like selective mutism, many side effects simmilar to beta blockers)
