Hello! I recently decided to try snorting a 75 mg IR tablet of bupropion. I have found so many inconclusive and conflicting reports on whether or not this drug has any recreational potential that I decided to try it myself. Yes, I am aware it can cause seizures in higher doses. I was prescribed 75 mg tablets a while back for depression and couldn't take them for long because they made me agitated. I have been sitting on a supply of them and decided to attempt to research whether or not they have any abuse potential. I've read everything from having absolutely no recreational value and you're an idiot to try them... or that they cause highs similar to amphetamines or MDMA.. or even cause hallucinations. I knew that the only way to find out the truth was to try it myself... shit I've snorted quetiapine before so how much dumber can snorting bupropion be?
So I scraped off the shell of the tablet and crushed it into a fine powder. This created a lot of powder. I assumed it would, but looking at the pile looked quite intimidating. I decided to chop it into 3 lines. I snorted one line.
The pain was EXCRUCIATING. It hurt much more than any drug I've snorted before. I've snorted some painful things before, but this one took the cake. My eyes were watering uncontrollably and I started coughing from the pain. The pain continued for about 6 minutes or so. During this time I did not notice any positive effects because I was too focused on the fact that my nose felt like someone stuck a bee hive in it. At almost exactly 6 minutes, the pain disappeared and got a numbing feeling.
Once the pain went away I was unable to stop smiling. I started giggling and felt energetic. I felt very empathetic. I felt minor euphoria. Not much like MDMA though. Not as intense but this definitely was not placebo.
After about 10 minutes of permanently smiling, I realized that my vision was slightly hazy almost identical to being extremely high on THC. The energy level kicked up and I realized I was clenching my teeth just a little. I continued feeling notably happy, but no real physical euphoria. This was a very mental high. I had an overall positive sense of well being, felt lighter and seemed to find things more enjoyable.
This effect continued for a while, about 30 minutes or so then most positive feelings went a way. I felt very much so sober, the only difference was vision was still slightly hazy.
After an hour I felt back to normal.
I did not snort more than a third of the pill. I couldn't bring myself to go through that pain again.
Worth it? No. I imagine if you snorted more the effects would have been more worth it.. however the pain was not worth the mild euphoria. Also even snorting it at all is notably dangerous due to seizure risk (and obviously the damage to your nasal passages).
Conclusion: I'm glad I tried it because now I know there definitely is recreational value to bupropion. However, it isn't worth the pain and I'm much more skeptical of taking this drug in any other way besides insufflation because consuming it would require much higher doses...which increases seizure risk. I was prescribed 75mg, and I tried parachuting it and taking it normally...both of those ROA did not have any noticeable effects except agitation, restlessness and bruxism.
I'd also like to note my credibility in this experience. I am not a noobie to drugs in any sense. So I promise you, there was no way that there was a "placebo effect" especially because I didn't expect any positive effects and have done enough drugs in my life to know what drug induced euphoria feels like.
