Opioids Buprenorphine Cream

My really old cat of 21 years just recently passed away. During the last weeks of its life, the vet prescribed a buprenorphine cream that you would rub on the cats ears for pain relief.

Now Im not addicted to opiates and would have no need or desire to use this stuff on myself. Im just curious if this would have any effect at all on people, seeing as it seems to be such an ineffective ROA and it was intended for a use on a smaller animal.

What do you guys think?
 
wow thats very interesting...i am sure it would take many cat doses to equal an effective human dose so yes, with enough you could get an effect.
 
maybe your cat was a long term heroin user and the doc put him on subs...

tasteless joke.. lol.. im sorry about your cat but thats real interesting.. ive never heard of bupe cream.. for animals nonthless..

does it say the ammount of bupe that there is in the tube? in mgs or whatnot?
 
Buprenorphine is used transdermally in the norspan and buspan patches so its definitely a feasible route in humans and the bioavailability is equivalent to the sublingual route (50%).

Here is some more information.

If you took the right dose of the cream, it would certainly work but given that you're a human with a large tolerance, I suspect you'd probably need quite a large amount of the cream.
