I use to think that I was allergic or had a bad reaction to pain medication. I had it with giving birth to all three children. It was fine. No problems.

But then later on I hurt my ankle really bad and was given hydrocodone. It made me feel really bad so I just lived with it.

Then sometime later I had surgery and after words they gave it to me again and it made my heart race, full blown panic, anxiety, dizziness ect. I just accepted I developed a allergy to hydrocodone.

A few more years later I stepped on a nail. It was 3 inches and it went all the way in. To say my foot hurt was a understatement. I told them I was allergic to hydrocodone and they gave me Tylenol 3. I was scared to take it at first but took 1/4 tab cause I had to. It worked perfectly. It did not only help my foot but my back too. It was a miracle.

Then I worked my was up to a 1/4th of lorcet. Then 1/2 then 3/4 then 1 tab. I reciently started 1 1/2 tab but it makes me too sleepy out of it so I just take 1 now. Of course this is at a time. I take 2 norco 10/325mg tab a day.

So my question is has anybody else has a similar experience with pain medication?

I really hate the sleepiness or nod.

My question is; Is it common for some one to be this sensitive to opiates? I had to start out at 1/4 of Tylenol 3 then ended up taking a few at a time then worked my way up to lorcet over the course of 9 months.

There are a lot of factors at play here, genetics, diet, weight, how your body metabolizes the drug, etc....

I am not too sure if its common to be as sensitive as you were/are, but I am not really that shocked either. Opiates do many different things to people.

If you dont like the "nod" then step your dose down a bit. Maybe someone else can chime in and help answer this more thoroughly.

When I was younger I couldn't have codeine or it's "family", like Vicodin. When I had my kids they gave me morphine and I panicked! That shit knocked me out and made me itch so bad but I was still worried about the codeine allergy, which was heart racin so bad I ended up at the hospital bein IV'd shit to slow my heart.
Anyway, about 5-6 yrs later I got rx'd some Vicodin. I did well physically, but emotionally I "knew" I was gonna die! And when my dr told me to try the codeine syrup he gave me I thought is he nuts? But I did and obviously I survived lol. So, maybe it use to be an allergy? Maybe it was panic all along bc of the nod? Whatever it was, thank God it's gone!
As for you gettin sleepy, that's completely normal. Once you build tolerance, you'll lose the nod.

OP are you taking these for pain management or recreational use ?, apologies but its not clear to me which it is.

I take it for pain and I still feel something from it. It helps with my pain most of the time. Then sometime it doesn't. I take 1 norco 2-3 times a day with Advil 4-600mg 3 times a day, Zantac in the morning, and Flexeril sometimes.

I have been taking it for a while due to back neck and general pain. I wish it was recreational. Then I would not have to take it everyday to keep the pain away. I would love to feel that intense euphoria again. That was really nice.

I'm not experienced in pain meds but have a friend at work with an ongoing and quite serious spinal issue, he takes mainly Tramadol and DHC, he's no to keen on how out of it he feels at time but it does manage the pain, the next step would be morphine patches which he's not keen on moving onto.

My mother recently started on Tramadol for her hip as she is waiting for a replacement and its really helped her allot, I guess you've been back to your doctor several times, the whole system is different in the UK but my advice would still be to go back to the prescribing doctor and tell them its not working for you.

Best Wishes

I tried tramadol and it gives me wicked headaches nausea, rapid heart rate, and nervousness.

My pain level is stable right now and I take it less. I'm really glad. But I know it will intensify soon. I have noticed I will have flair ups about every 3 weeks that lasts 2 weeks or so. Right now I'm good.
