Brighton considers drug-use rooms in bid to reduce deaths

Shambles check out this Video of the DTES it's shot by Cops & i think you will appreciate it as will other posters.

THROUGH A BLUE LENS

It shows that the DTES is unlike no other place .

Thanks Brimzini :)

Will give that a watch later. So far I'm just enjoying the bloke's name. Al Arsenault. Like an astronaut only shittier.

It's an interesting video, a bit gory in places so be warned if you're of a sensitive disposition (so Shambles goes to the front of the queue). Pissed me off a bit that they're using the depictions of "street people" to warn kids off drugs, though, it's almost like they allow people to get into that state for propaganda reasons. The analysis of why people end up in sorry states sometimes goes beyond "drugs did it" but the overall message does not. Still definitely worth watching, just wear your overalls.

I want to see the Swiss version!

This is so much bullshit it's unreal. I heard this on the BBC1 breakfast news this morning. In the studio, they had the obligatory 'recovering addict', whom I was expecting to present a plausible case for drug law reforms. Unfortunately, as soon as he opened his mouth, it was obvious he was just another token 'reformed junkie' regurgitating the usual 'abstinence' bollocks. What he could have said was "instead of providing a safe environment in which to take illegal drugs safely, why not legalise those same drugs so that they are not cut with all manner of dangerous substances in the first place! Then it would help to reduce the number of drug fatalities without having to provide 'shooting galleries' which, to be honest, nobody really wants to go to in the first place." This proposal is a pathetic attempt to address the real problem without really doing anything about it at all!!

here here . I saw him too. FUCK OFF the lot of you. can't wait to get out of treatment and get my decadent heroin use to a decadent treat. i know that it is possible. there was a time i used to drink everyday/ every weekend (never lasted as long as this addiction) but I am so sick of theTOTAL ABSTINENCE BRIGADE. it is that thought that makes it harder to stop in my opinion.

dunno if i like the idea of people going to a place to be watched to take their drugs. not everyone wants to take their illegal subs in a public place. perhaps pubs should become places where you can do any drugs you like? just a thought like :)

it also brings stuff out into the open for people to discuss. there was a little mention of people being given their drugs too. oh no we can't have that. I fucking hate society. someone build me a tree ;)

Yeah but the "Street People"in question are asked if they mind & all of them are ok with it . If it were done without their permission then it would be wrong .

Funny you should mention me earlier Brimz, i was contacted a few days ago by Caroline Lucas to go and take part in a committee meeting discussing this very idea. Quite surprised to hear its gone public already as she made it clear it was in the very early stages of consideration. Unfortunately, because i don't live in Brighton anymore i can't attend, shame really. I'm flat on.my back on the sofa typing this on a phone atm so when I've got the laptop out i might add more on the subject. In brief though, i think it would be going some way in turning around Brighton's less than exemplary drug death record. I know the council are very keen to shake off that particular badge. And putting more chaotic users in regular touch with healthcare provides can't hurt. Overall though, I'm with FUBAR in the long run. Stop people using poor quality, cut to fuck drugs and provide the good shit

Amnesia , is there a specific area in Brighton where they have anything close to Open air Drug Markets & complete Junkie mayhem where no normal person would willingly go ?

If not then they are going to find it hard to get a location that will work .

Yeah but you need a place of mayhem n OPen air Drug taking to make it work . Clean up said area .

Otherwise it will be to close to "Normal Folk"

gotta go speak later %)

Aye, they do ask them and they seem to have a reasonable relationship with them. I was really talking about how the police say the drugs are the cause of the problem, when I think it's much more complicated than that. Also they're spending time and effort making this documentary and going round schools when they could be spending time and effort helping the people sort their lives out, or better still working out ways that allow people to find peace and fulfilment in their lives without going "off the rails".

Indeed^ Or putting more money/effort/time into healing those who are affected by abuse. I remember a guybcwll Gabor Mate who is a Dr practising in the Vancouver DTES saying that of all his patients addicted to heroin/cocaine only one was not a victim of childhood abuse. We gotta put more into nipping this in the bud. Although when talking of buds we can't deny that the plant is more like a friggin allotment.

Was speaking to my mum about this today, since she lives in Brighton.

Apparently we shouldn't be giving the drug users anything that helps them to take drugs in a more safe manner, they should be allowed to die otherwise they will keep costing us money.

Nope, I don't speak to her much. Three guesses which paper she has read every day for the last thirty years.

She's so right. While we're at it lets quit giving out those retro viral drugs to those dirty AIDS carriers too -only got themselves to blame for that one. And what about most type 2 diabetes sufferers? Fuck em, shouldn't of eaten so much bloody cake should they?

Right, who's next?

Hah. She would get along well with my dad.

=D

F.U.B.A.R. I totally agree with you. Were those kind of rooms available to me I can frankly say I would never go to them. If I'm going to do those kinds of drugs, I'm going to do them on my own. I wouldn't enjoy it if there were people everywhere and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person in that situation.
This just sounds like a governmental ploy to distract our attention from the real problem and to pretend like they're actually making steps to resolve the drug issues in this country. I'm not convinced.
