This stuff is supposed to produce sexual arousal in both men and women. In fact, it's the first TRUE aphrodisiac. What I mean by this is it doesn't directly cause any physical changes in the body, but rather it alters mood.

Now, the stuff comes as a nasal spray, but how the hell does it get into the brain?
 
I remember hearing about this one years ago. And then nothing materialized. I doubt we will ever see this one make it to the market or hear about new research involving it--it seems to be pharmacological vaporware. I wonder if it has antidepressant, stimulant or anorectic effects that differ from those of the amphetamines? Then I could see it actually being quite the useful compound.

As for how it gets into the brain...that is a good question. Since it is a cyclic (and slightly more lipophilic) peptidomimetic compound, I assume that it can cross into the nasal capilary beds in very minute concentrations. Think about desmopressin (a synthetic vasopressin analogue), which is a similar peptide nasal spray that crosses the BBB in itty bitty concentration levels (in the picomolar or femptomolar range, I think).
 
So, basically your saying it doesn't pass the BBB to well, but enough gets in to work?

It's in phase 3 trials now for men with erectile dysfunction and phase 2A for both pre and post menopausal women. I wonder, premenopausal? Does this mean young girls or people with delayed publity or what?
 
Exactly. The bioavailablity is extremely low compared with non-peptide small molecule drugs, but since the target concentration is likely only in the picomolar range, it is enough.

And premenopausal is just a medical jargony way of saying normal adult female (that is, one who still gets periods).

Their a-MSH agonist Melanotan II--the shit that makes you tan but not orange--would probably be quite popular as a recreational drug (not a behaviorally reinforcing, 'fun' drug, but one that people use just for cosmedic purposes).

I think by pre-menopausal they're talking about the time shortly before menopause when sexual desire can be a problem, resulting in decreased ability (dryness, etc).

I know it's still being tested. I think it'll make it to market, at least for men. Men seem to get the cool stuff. Then docs will distribute it to women like they did viagra.
 
I would love to know the dose/activity range. I mean, will you get horny as hell if you take a lot? No, seems too good to be true.

I guess for those who are in some sort of relationship, this might be a good thing; but for those of us who are alone, this sounds like one of Dante's nine layers of hell--exponentially increasing desire for something that is unattainable. Shit, I'd pay decent coldhard for something that selectively attenuated horniness without any other side effects: no desire == no possible disappointment.

Not that I'm cynical or bitter [/Rant].
 
if I am thinking of the right substance, people have been taking this for its pro tanning action. It makes pale types exceedingly dark, I believe it is injected.
somewhere there is a forum where people have been posting the results.

No, this agent is for libido enhancement and was DERIVED from the pro-melanotrophic agent Melanotan-II which also has to some degree that aspect, but this was developed to enhance that aspect and make it more specific to libido enhancement
 
Does bremelanotide produce the tanning action too? I know its a metabolite of melanotan-II, so people taking the tanning drug get horny as well...

Melanotan-II is interesting, would make tanning nice and easy, but apparantly it doesn't work the same for everyone, some people get uneven blotches of pigment that are real dark, or new moles appearing everywhere, and the changes are permanent so that would not be cool.

That's what I was thinking of. And what happens when you're so horny even the real thing doesn't do the job?
