Brilliant episode. I suspect they're starting us off slowly... :D

First ep was good, the title scene was the best.

I guess some serious shit is going to inevitably happen that causes Walt to be all alone, looking different, has been across the country almost, buying M60's and shit, I can't wait to find out the stuff that drove him to this.
Oh and didn't you notice Walt wasn't wearing his wedding ring in the very first scene, fucking Skylar is dead, man

The continuing darkness of Walter White is one of the most brilliantly handled elements of the show, the ending and other parts of the revealed a coldness that has consumed his personality.

Kept thinking Jesse was going to make a Insane Clown Posse joke with the whole magnets thing, The show did not disappoint.

i absolutely loved this ep. from the beginning, to the pan to the massive fuckin' m60 in the trunk, to the incredibly creepy and sinister 'i forgive you' line, to 'yeah, magnets, bitches' it was the best piece of TV i saw since the final episode of season four last year.

Having followed Breaking from the beginning I still find entertaining and amusing, although the show has changed a lot. As it has progressed the show has become more caricatured and into its own world. Breaking Bad promises increased suffering and tension for Walt and the characters around him due to Walt's terminal cancer as well as his out of control hubris which tends to suggest a rocky endings for characters in dramas. But recently it has been harder for me to feel the tension through the acting of the characters, particularly Walt who has changed from a man acting desperately to make money for his family, to a larger than life super criminal. This seems a bit contrived to push the plot towards ever bigger events. And what really seemed contrived was the way Jessie brought up the idea of a magnet, and his line"magnet, bitch," obviously just an attempt to coin a phrase. What this show needs right now in my opinion is more of the human side of his character to show through to make him more believable.

As contrasted with what other show on prime time television?

But I do agree that the inevitable escalation of stakes became pretty ludicrous by the time Season 4 rolled around. Something about Fring's superhuman, almost clairvoyant powers of perception, self-control, and political chicanery wore me down. Nevertheless, the show has demonstrated an uncanny ability to foresee and address its own blunders, wisely killing Fring off just after he became too unbelievable a character to watch without breaking a wan smile.

Re. the show's progressive inward momentum - I think that this feature (which would be unbecoming in any other context) serves as a clever parallel to Walt's disturbing transformation from a mild-mannered, almost caricatured science teacher to an infectiously bitter, antisocial criminal mastermind and brutal murderer. It's getting harder and harder for Walter to see outside of himself as the consequences of his actions become harder and harder to trace to their original source. As the catastrophic violence and social disarray that have come to define his life continue to escalate, Walt and his viewers become emotionally and intellectually scattered under the dizzying strain of his countless hangups and miseries. Perhaps I'm reading too much into the series, but that's how I view the show and its development over time.

It's one really really nice .38 apparently....or he bought a shitload of ammo for it.

But didn't it come without its serial numbers? I can imagine that such a procedure isn't cheap, but then, I've never tried to purchase an untraceable weapon before...
