Does a Micron Filter remove Bacteria from Non-Sterile Water?

Bottled water pushed through a micron filter (0.2um) - does this get rid of bacteria?

Essentially asking if it renders the water 'sterile' ?


ANSWERS BELOW - but basically a 0.2um Micron Filter WILL remove bacteria

Agreed. I was thinking though - if the Micron filter is essentially for removing binders and bacteria from your solution, then it would be logical that it would also filter the water in a way.

Unfortunately I've been using bottled water for shots recently (sterile water is on it's way).

I think if I have to again, I'll boil it, let it cool, and then suck up the water directly from the pot and store it in a empty ampule
 
pretty sure binders are alot bigger than bacteria, i thought the micron filter only removed binders and shit?

You're probably right, but I could have swore I read that 0.2um also gets rid of most bacteria. I'll have to look into this-

EPA and CDC recommend an absolute one micron filter (or one labeled for cyst removal) to remove Cryptosporidium. According to an EPA publication, here are some common water contamination problems and their size in microns: Giardia lamblia – 8 to 12 microns; Cryptosporidium parvum – 4 to 6 microns, Bacteria like E. coli and salmonella – 0.2 to 4 microns; Viruses – 0.004 to 0.1 microns.

According to this article, a 0.2 UM micron will remove bacteria like e.coli and salmonella (and probably many other bacteria types)

the .45 was the medical standard years ago if i remember right now they use a .22 milicron filtre..The pore size of a filtre allows it to prevent the movement of certain particles depending on the size of those particles. The smaller the size of the pores, the smaller the set of particles which can pass the filtre. A filtre with 0.2 pore size can prevent most forms of bacteria and some very large viruses from passing through the filtre since bacteria tend to range from about 0.1 micrometers to 600 micrometers. Many viruses are less than 0.1 micrometers, however, so a 0.2 micron filtre is not nearly as effective for viruses.

0.45 micron is fine you wont have a problem. generally all but the smallest bacteria are larger than 0.45 micron and hence will be filtered out. the very few kinds that are smaller than that arent going to be in anything you are filtering
 
nice but it doesnt remove viruses although i dont know if that matters much? i dont shoot so i havent looked into this a whole lot.

Exactly. Viruses are too small and get through Micron filters.

Syringe filters may be used to filter injectable illegal drugs such as heroin, methadone (Physeptone)*, amphetamines, ecstasy or benzodiazepines. The filter still lets the drug through, but gets rid of many impurities such as fungal spores, bacteria or 'filler' used in the drug.
I dont have time to check all the listed ingredients, but I can tell you that a 22um or 45um will defnitely filter out bacteria.
Microfiltration (= using micron filters) is said to filter out bacteria but not viruses. Now viruses can be regarded as macromolecules (= very big molecules), much bigger than soluble cuts. Note that bacteria get filtered out only if you use 0.2 filters, not filters with bigger pores.
Yeah, I was led to believe that the 0.22 micron filter was so fine that it was able to actually filter bacteria.
Also, 0.22um will filter out bacteria, which is really important when it comes to stuff like bupe which sometimes has been in someone's mouth before reaching you. A 0.22um filter WILL NOT filter viruses (like HIV, Hepatitis), nor will it filter fungi (such as Candida strains which can cause blindness)
As others have said, if you filter properly, only soluble substances will remain. To do it properly, if filtering tablets or anything containing solids start with a 5 micron then a .8 micron then to .22 micron, if your just filtering normal soluble drugs you can skip the 5 micron and just use the other two. This will ensure you have filtered out even most bacteria. You have to remember though that soluble substances will remain in the solution. This includes things like dyes, glucose, msm etc.. So lets say your filtering a red Eccy, your remaining solution will be free of the chalk, dust, bacteria and other solid shite that was in the eccy, but the solution will still be red as the dye is soluble. If you're filtering speed thats cut with glucose or msm then both the speed and the glucose/msm will remain in solution.
