Both My Doctor AND Pharmacy Accidentally Gave Me 1 Year & 3 Months Worth of Suboxone.

I have never had a doctor OR pharmacy make a mistake one time in the 3+ years I've been on sub. So to have BOTH of them make
a mistake on the same exact day.... is really fucking weird.

This is the story -

I was seeing 1 sub doctor for a little under 3 years.

Well, 6 months ago I switched to a new doctor who is cheaper and closer to my home (which was awesome).

I've been seeing this newer doctor once a month, and he always gives me 4 - 2 mg strips. I'm only taking .25mg, and have been at this
dose for over a year now. My plan was to jump off in the spring time which I discus with him everytime I go there.

So today, I go to see him. And its busier than normal, but he did NOT rush anything. He treated me like he normally does, and didn't
seem rushed in anyway. So I get my script and leave. While driving home I pull the script out of my pocket and see instead of writing "4", he wrote "14". And not only did he write 14, but he also wrote out "fourteen" on the script right under the number "14". I have never seen him
do that before (maybe he has and I just didn't notice).

So I think "ok, I get a few extra months worth of sub, no big deal".

Now, I go to the pharmacy to drop off the script. It is NOT BUSY at all. I am the only one there when I show up and there is no line
at all. So I get my sub in about 10 mins, go home, and throw the bag by my computer.

About 3 hours later, I sit down by my computer and open the bag... and notice they are BLUE strips.
My jaw drops and I'm like "what the fuck is going on today? are you kidding me GOD? are you trying to MAKE ME TAKE MORE SUB THAN I NEED?!"

On the BAG, it says "2-.5mg film" which is suppose to be the green strips. But the strips inside the bag are the blue 8mg strips, which I was only on for the first year (like 2 years ago).

I take out a calculator and do the math, and one of these strips will last me 34 days.

Multiply that X 14 = 476 days. Which is a little over 1 year and 3 months worth of sub.

Anyway, I still have 12 green strips that I saved up "in case of an emergency".

So right now, I actually have a 1 1/2 year supply of sub.

My question to sub users are as follows:

1) Have you ever been over prescribed sub? Cause I could have sworn they use "robot counters" in pharmacies these days.
(I'm like 99% sure my pharmacy has them).

2) If you had a year and half worth of it... would you stop going to your doctor?

I don't even know what to do. Because technically I can cut the 8mg strips into .25mg doses. But it is SMALL AS FUCK.

And I don't really want to stop seeing my doctor, cause he planned on giving me detox meds.
At the same time, I don't want to throw the sub away.

Even after I stopped, I wanted to keep an emergency supply encase I relapse a year or 2 down the road and don't have
money. So this would make a great emergency supply.

So I think my REAL question is, if I put the strips in the freezer, how long do you think they will last for?

Cause thats the only thing I can think of doing. Just throw them in the freezer and continue seeing my doctor as I
normally do. Also, if this has ever happened to anyone else, I would love to hear about it. Because I was under the impression
that pharmacies do NOT make mistakes these days. I guess I was wrong. =D

It's your lucky day. I don't really see a question and I don't really see a point about promoting HR in this thread. Sounds like a blog to me.

You don't need to put the strips in the freezer. Just keep them in a dark, dry, and cool spot and they will last a long time.

That's pretty crazy, your doctor I can imagine making that mistake but the pharmacy... Was this today? I could imagine them calling you if they realize their error, not only did they give you too much but they'd be legally liable (or rather their insurance would be), if you took a whole strip thinking it was your normal dose and then OD'd.

If nothing happens I'd say use the normal strength ones you have saved this month, it'll be too much trouble cutting the 8s into tiny equal pieces. Then I'd say keep going to doctor, unless it's a financial burden, since this gives you some accountability during the process and as you said, you're only planning on going a couple more times before you start detoxing with his help.

If it sounds like a blog you obviously don't know what a blog is. A blog is a large collection of articles. And it can go on for months or years.

A blog can have as many as 500-5000 articles on it. Some have even more.

So if you were to call this anything, it would be an article about a users experience. And there is a question at the end of it regarding the shelf life of sub, if you put it in a freezer.

I also wanted to know if this has ever happened to other people. Forums are for discussions. If you have a problem with that, I'm not sure why you're on a forum in the first place. Thank you.

edit: interesting how you actually edited your post and answered the question once you saw how other members reacted.

Agree with Lacster, you don't need to freeze the strips, I think that would add moisture you don't want. Cool and dark place is good. Do you think this will in any way hinder your recovery? I mean it's not my drug of choice, but a mistake like that would get my mind spinning.

I mean.. I don't really see what the discussion is here. Hah. You lucked out I guess and got a shit load more suboxone than you'll ever need. What you do with it is up to you.

I'm going to close this as it's really not the kind of HR discussion meant for OD.
