Requiem for a Dream by Hubert Selby Jr. is an outstanding druggie book. Selby is a very gifted writer.
Dopefiend by Donald Goines is a very cool book. pulp fiction written by the son of a whore, who lived and died in the ghetto... and was possessed of a powerful gift for writing
the basketball diaries by jim carroll is a *terrific* read. that book shaped the way i looked at the world for about five years..
Hunger by Knut Hamsun is not a druggie book, but it's a great read about a young, lost man trying to find his way in the world.
a very cool book is john barleycorn by jack london, an autobiographical work in which he tells the story of his becoming an alcoholic. this is really good too!! and it's available online!
