Television Boardwalk Empire

I think it's great. I believe the 'dullness' or 'slowness' is a deliberate choice of the show's creators and it's definitely going to pay off. I actually like this type of pace and it shines through the acting talents of all the cast. :)

how could something staring buschemi and directed by scorsese have been so damn mediocre. like a so-so sopranos (which was a great show), just set in the 20s. maybe it will pick up, but i don't know if i can give it another chance after such a disappointing series premiere.

You should always stick with shows like this no matter how slow they start. Starting slow is a good thing, it breaks up the pace so that every episode isn't just action action action. It makes the violence seem that much more fucked up and brings you to a climax that will blow your mind, ala Breaking Bad and The Wire.

Think of watching these shows like having sex. You are excited for it to start, it starts off slow and then builds to an earth shaking climax if the series knows how to do it right.

^^ haha i like that analogy. and ur right the first two episodes are building characters and plot, like laying the foundation.

"What is the moral of this story. If I will order a man to choke to death for my own amusement, what do you think I will do to you if you don't tell me who ordered the hit on Colisimo."

best line from the show so far. my fav character is jimmy, he seems to be torn between getting things done and supporting his family which always makes for good drama :)

Damn straight 3,4 ... When I'm out for some killing I always intimidate and torture my vics first, makes the climax that much better..

This made me lol.

What has all of this violent television done to us?

And to think people once found Looney Toons too violent...

think its pickin up now. imo last nights episode was really good.

i like the small things they mention in the show that was different or new in the 20s. like nuck askin "whats motherfucker mean?" the french lady who margaret works for requiring her to bathe at least once a week, jimmy's vacuum sweeper present scaring his kid, tho maybe kids still are frightened by them today ? also jimmy gettin mad at his girl for posing with bare shoulders, oh and the dentist using cocaine. yea shit like that...

stoked to see chalky white get some screen time. michael k. williams lookin slick in that red coat.

and is paz de la huerta going to get naked every episode ? i certainly hope so, that dressing room scene was like whoa 8o /jaw dropped.

I'm with Amy 100 percent.

Slower pace = more great dialogue + MUCH better & broader character development.

It's EXACTLY what made The Sopranos the greatest show ever.

So far. :)

I was going to bring that quote up as my favorite from the episode. He should have been able to figure it out. It would have been funnier if he had asked Chalky, to which he would reply "It means you fuck your mother".

I like this show. Steve Buschemi's character is cool. I need to watch it more. I like the concept of it, and I like the historical aspect as well. I like watching something that takes place in the past, but you get the feel that you're in that time period watching it happen in the present.

They are really making Capone into a pretty ruthless character. I hope we get to see a lot more of him this season.

Man, I was just starting think it was ok, and then did you see the last episode (#5)? Who the fuck did they let write that bag of suck? Completely different tone than the rest of the show. Felt like an episode of Weeds.

Fucking awesome episode tonight. Jimmy is the shit.

Nudity and violence for the win!

Interesting side note: My dad once sold his car to Al Capone.

i think we're all pretty much on the same page with this one.

huge hopes>bit of a let down>starting to get better.

other than nuck, al capone is far and away the best character in the show.
