I first spoke to BT on IRC not long after I first joined Bluelight, at the time one of the people I knew was sooooooo in love with him (despite having not met him) and all I could hear was BT this and BT that and to be honest I thought the hero worship was kind of annoying. I didn’t quite get why this guy was so great, I admitted that he was extremely knowledgeable, very sweet and helpful and didn’t deny that he contributed hugely to the Drug Discussion forum but I didn’t see why this girl practically salivated at the mention of his name.

Well things sure do change because nowadays I can fully understand why BT induces such hero worship amongst Bluelighters whether they have met him or not.

I fist tried to meet up with BT on the weekend of Earthcore 2001 and failed, mainly because I never got my ass to the place I was going to see him (@tmosphere?). I didn’t actually get to meet him until I went down to Melbourne 6 months later for PVD and I remember these two super-tall guys walking into Wazza’s house and someone (probably Waz) briefly introducing me and then the next night we all went out to some club where I ended up being surrounded by tall people... I remember saying that I needed a shrink ray gun and BT offered to take me up the front so I could see (cheeky buggar) :p

Since then I’ve seen BT many times in a variety of situations and I have to say the man is a darling, he’s the first and only person I ever sent a trip report to, he’s listened to me rant and rave on a variety of issues from school through work and of course Bluelight and bluelighters, he’s listened to me bitch and whine and been a sounding board that I have appreciated more than I can say.

The man is sweet, super intelligent and I have so much love and respect for him and I’m sure I’m not the only one.

So that’s enough from me, it’s time for you guys to share stories (IRL or online) of this wonderful man.

I like BT because he hates all the same people on IRC as I do, and sometimes he pays them out and it's funny.

I met BT at the BL BBQ I believe, some time in late 2001. I actually don't remember thinking "wow, he's really tall", although I do remember thinking he was really fluoro, but I don't know in what way exactly.

He's also a smart lad, which is refreshing, especially on IRC.

And he teaches my brother stuff, which I find endlessly amusing.

All hail!

BT is the epitome of patience. ;) This is the guy who used to reply all my inane paranoid PM/emails when I was in Melbourne. I've never met him personally, but from bluelight, I know he never fails to give out responsible advice, regardless of whether he approves or disapproves of what you're doing. Basically, I find that he's one of the truly non-judgemental types, and I hold people like this with high regard.

He's one of the moderators I respect - I have been lurking around for a while before registering and he has made me feel quite welcome...he's the one that would reply to the newbies posting threads. I've never seen him flame anyone or be sarcastic (well, not too sarcastic anyway, when the poster deserves it ;)) in his replies too, traits that I feel gets him the respect from the newer ones. I think it's that cursed smiley he uses after his nick - it projects the image of a friendly and aproachable person. ;)

I'm not on MDMA, mind. I'm actually coming down rather hard right now (various stims), so being able to write all that says a lot about BT. I see him as a helpful moderator that goes beyond what's required of him.

BT and I shared a strange fascination with shared gerbils running free in irc.

More importantly, every time I've had a question for the man, he's not only not looked at me like I'm a knob, but answered patiently and explained all the long words I couldn't understand.

Knowledge personified mebbe?

Some of his papers were pretty nifty too.

BT has always been a cornerstone of the bluelight experience. His name is known to most all those who read the forums, and his knowledge is invaluable at directing clueless kids in the right direction.

Aside from all that, he's a downright nice guy. I can only imagine how many random munted bluelighters he has to deal with at parties, but he always maintains a calm politeness about him. It's always great to see him busting a move on the dancefloor too :)

Also he is a constant amusement on IRC. Nuff said.

Yeah his a great bloke. Meet him way back, he is such a humble guy though. Didnt realise it was the one and only legendary BT I had meet until later. He is bloody inteligent too, remember back in GC I think it was when he was explaining how drugs effect the brain in technical terms. Not that I understood half of it but it was so cool hearing while on something. Damn smart, he is undoubtably one of the major influences that made bluelight the forum it is.

I've only met the man a couple of times but even in those short moments he has left a lasting impression on me - one of the nicest people I've ever met.

On a bluelight level - he is BLUELIGHT ;)

His patience, knowledge and dedication to harm minimisation is second to none - you are a true gem, and we're all blessed to have you here :)

p.s - he also tries to convince people that he doesn't like Aus Social, but I see you lurking here ;)

I haven't had the pleasure of meeting BT yet but everything about the man that I have gleaned from his online (well bluelight ;)) persona is admirable.

The in depth knowledge and understanding about pretty much everything and the quick answers to questions both simple and hard is great.

Bluelight just wouldn't be the same place without BT :)

Thanks for everything that you have done and are doing around here :)

CB :)

First met BT outside of Billboards a couple of years ago - at that time it was just a passing greeting and I had thought "Gee that guy is real tall ;)"

He's one of the most patient person I ever know - and though we only met up briefly once or twice in the last 2 years (whenever I was back in Melbourne) - he always has a huge hug and a ready smile :)

BT - thank you for lending your patient ear and advice.... and the tek introduction ;)

Once again you people make it hard for me to put a post. Regarding Mr Fluffy, Psychokitten and BigTrancer, are 3 out of the 4 people I have connected most from Bluelight. Putting anything less than 15,000 words per person still would not put into perspective on how much they mean to me. Once again, I'll do what I put into mr fluffys post, one word. (Hope you get a great laugh at this BT)

E-ya!

BT..... its all been said!! You da maaaan!:D Your intelligence, patience with posts/people who may not get it quite right...

It's always a pleasure to read your posts :)

ah, bt. yep, like others have said, to me bt represents everything that is fantastic about bluelight. he's friendly, helpful, and most of all knows an absolute fuckload about everything, seemingly.

i've only had the chance to meet him once (though he was nice enough to keep my annoying self company for much of the night :)), but he's always been a noticed presence on this board.

i'm glad this thread happened (i'll move it to the archive soon...but one final bump first :)).
