Seasons - Autumn (Fall), 2007

RULES
1. Any photograph or variation of a photograph which has been previously submitted for one of the contest rounds cannot be used in subsequent rounds of the contest.

2. Photographs must be your original work and that has never been copyrighted or, if copyrighted, that you are the sole copyright owner of.
2a. No submitting pictures for other people, for friends, etc. Your OWN work, very simple.

3. Only one photograph may be entered per contest.

4. All photographs must be free of watermarks, signatures and borders

5. Photographs must be no wider than 700 and no higher than 700.

6. Deadline for entries is 12am Eastern (5am GMT) on the posted deadline date.

7. Voting ends at 12am Eastern (5am GMT) on the posted end date.

8. Post your images in the appropriate thread in the form of an image, not a link to click on.

9. Don't be a dummy and vote for your own photo, try and make it fun.

Be reminded that this is a photo contest and so images which have been heavily manipulated through an image editing software will not be accepted. To put everyone on a level playing field, editing should be restricted to cropping and resizing.

Images which are not relevant to the week's theme will be automatically removed.

If you have a problem with another contestant's entry adhering to the contest guidelines, please PM the forum moderators. Do not try to begin a debate about the issue within the contest submission or poll thread! There will be zero tolerance towards any attempts to devolve a contest thread into a bash-fest or witch hunt.

We will pick the next theme and post it the night a contest ends for the next round so people have a full 7 days to take pictures and submit them. After all the entries have been posted, a poll will be added on the last night, so people can vote. Voting will take place from midnight to midnight over the following 2 days (12am Sunday - 12am Tuesday).

Those who wish to participate in sharing full versions of their entries may do so by providing a link only to the full sized version in the same post as their entry.

Thank you and have fun!

Please submit your photos in this thread and a mod will re-post them when voting starts in a separate voting thread.

Submissions: October 14 - October 20
Voting: September 21 - October 22

Well I might as well get in early since Autumn is half a year away, lol.

Nice one, Raving Loony!

I swear nature is conspiring against me. I had my eye on this tree which was changing colours. It was approaching a beautiful "ready" point and I was about to go take some shots the following week. Don't we get hit with a sudden cold wave and high winds and the next thing I know is the tree is bald. Not a single leaf left on it! Off to find another idea next week. :\

By the way, the "2007" in the theme does not mean that the photos have to be from this year. I put that in there simply to separate this from future like rounds.

Next theme is rain..............Now I know for sure that someone is taking the piss. We are in the middle of the worst drought in human history.

Nah its cool............The AC units drip water from time to time.

It will rain just for you, Mazza. ;)

Last week, just before the current cold wave hit, I was being chased down the highway by a beautiful summer thunde shower. Sunshine ahead, dark wall of rain behind, that kind of painting. Wasn't able to pull over and snap a few, opportunity missed. You're not alone with nature's ambush, bud. You guys have those "personal rain" shower heads there? :)

i love spring and autumn because of all the change that occurs..

summer and winter are rather steady bland and boring if you ask me..
i was at a beautiful wedding yesterday and i forgot my camera, ida been able to get some BEAUTIFUL shots standing in this herb garden decorated for a wedding.

Protection from the elements, otherwise they could rot in as little as 5 years, depending on the geography.

Really??

How strange.

Im guessing that its because they were built way back when and were just made of whatever local materials were available?

We used hard wood in our older ones and while most have now been replaced with tar and concrete there is the odd timber bridge still arround............one of my favourites is currently being restored...........but they are all open to the weather.

It appears that I was only partly correct.

Covered bridges are generally considered old-fashioned, and appeal to tourists, but the purpose is twofold: (1) covered bridges appear similar to barns and it is easier to transport cattle across them without startling them, and (2) to build a structure for weather protection over the working part of the bridge. A bridge built entirely out of wood, without any protective coating, may last 10 to 15 years. Builders discovered that if the bridge's underpinnings were protected with a roof, the bridge could stand for 70, or even 80 years.
