Hi there my beloved b00bs n00bs. This is the third in an occasional series of my New Member Introductions lectures. They will be available on DVD some time next year, so don't panic if you miss one.

Troll

In Internet terminology, a troll is a person who enters an established community such as an online discussion forum and intentionally tries to cause disruption, most often in the form of posting inflammatory, off-topic, insulting, or otherwise inappropriate messages.

I know you guys are in your Bluelight honeymoon period at the moment, and everything is lovely, but you need to be warned about this phenomenon.

We are going to make this lecture an interactive one. The last one didn't seem to go down too well :( so I think a bit of audience participation might help to liven things up a bit.

I'm not really sure where I'm going to go with this, but with the amount of dumbass Americans on Bluelight I'm sure things'll start pretty soon.

What you can see here, kids, is Beatlebot pretending to take offence, and trying to get into an argument with me.

Which is also a rather subtle type of trolling.

Well done madam. Who's next? :)

Thanks for illustrating another aspect of troll-like behaviour you two. %)

As you can see folks, it is very easy for a troll to change a thread from its intended course. Sometimes it's tempting to address another poster directly in a light-hearted and even friendly manner within a thread, but realistically most other posters couldn't care less. It just disrupts things and annoys people.

These things are always best kept to Private Messages, or 'PMs' for short. I'll cover these in more detail in a later episode.
 
I get it. You were trying to be offensive in order to incite an e-riot and begin an attempt to get attention. So THAT'S trolling!

See I am a perfect troll for your examples, Felix. %) Plus I am bored and that is a terrible situation for disaster in any thread for a mod. :X Please Blers DON'T BE LIKE STELLA!!! =D

You see, what he has done is attacked my ego, in an attempt to get a rise out of me. He referred to this forum as a 'sub forum', which implies it is less important than all the rest, thereby trying to make me feel unimportant.

This is a common tactic, and people should watch out for it.

However, we should not discount the fact that poor Monsta! made an intro thread here back in March, and it didn't get any replies. :( Needless to say I have now fixed this oversight on behalf of my predecessor. ;)

(Hey... I only started here in April... %))
