Coughed up some mucus when i woke up this morning and it had blood in it. it wasnt all bloody; it was mostly yellow/brownish but had patches of red in it. This isnt the first time i've noticed blood in my mucus.. maybe 3rd or 4th time that i've noticed(I dont usually inspect my mucus tho unless i spit into a sink).

Im a moderate/heavy smoker.. smoke anywhere from 2-4gs a day along with half a pack to a pack of cigs daily. Is this a sign of a serious health problem or the beginning signs of one developing? I dont have health insurance atm so i cant go to a doc. anyone experience this?

The cigarettes probably contributed way more to the blood in your mucous than the weed did. Being a cannabis smoker and a non-tobacco smoker, I can tell you I've coughed up some yellow-ass mucous, but rarely with blood in it. Also if it's darker than yellow, like brown or black, that's probably from the cigs also.

A little bit of blood in the mucous is probably nothing to worry about, though. It's probably not a good thing, but it comes with the territory of smoking.

Its a common thing among smokers. Keep your eye on it though, if you start noticing more blood try and cut back on the smoking. If that doesn't help I would probably see a doctor.

yeah^ +1
i havent smoked cigs in a while, but i went on a car trip with someone who smokes so i was smokin' em down all day yesterday...today, i have a irritated throat and had some bloddy mucus.

Its the cigs....

damn guess i should give up my nicotine habit before i make things worse...

that is a sign of how your respiratory system is...you dont have a dash like cars that light the check engine light or a computer with error messages..try to give a break, smoking less and try quitting the cigarretes or otherwise you wont be a healthy person ;)

you should an appointment with your doc asap. could be nothing, but why chance it?

one of the biggest factors in surviving cancer is early detection.

i dont have a doc or health insurance, which is why im seeking medical advice on via message boards..heh..

^ Rough situation. Could be your nasal passages are getting severely dried up. If you start hacking up blood, take a break, for your sake. Just try to cut down if this is recurring.

I used to get bloody noses after long smoke seshs years back, but I'm not sure I should attribute it to my smoking habits. I've never been a heavy cig smoker (I can make a pack of American Spirits last until they go stale, so about a week and a half), though I used to smoke several grams a day.

Do you notice respitory issues? Maybe it's time to start incorporating some physical activity in the form of cardio (this will also help reduce your smoking habit). It's tough and probably not what you want to hear, but this could be your body reacting to the amount of smoke it's dealing with.

My snot is usually bloody. I don't smoke often (cannabis or tobacco) so I'm fairly certain it is from insufflating a wide variety of drugs.

Definitely try to figure out if its coming from your lungs, or your nasal passages. My nose constantly has blood in it during the winter when the air is so dry so that would be totally normal. Coming from the lungs though is a different story.

This site outlines causes for coughing up blood- it sucks but the diagnosis ranges from nothing, to really bad.

Google always leads to cancer...anything when your body excretes blood it just says its cancer of that area....best thing to do is stop smoking for a bit and if it still happens you need to get to a doctor...the stress of worrying if you have cancer or not isnt a good thing.

You don't have health insurance but still smoke cigarettes? Come on man, that part is just common sense.. gotta quit bro :\

If this was me I would have the discipline to cut out all forms of smoking for a week or so and then only smoke pot (at least) until I was able to see a doctor, and then see what happens. And I know I know quitting cigarettes "easier said than done", but its either that or hack up mystery blood every morning, the choice shouldn't be that hard.

Anyway man, good luck.. Thats just what I would do if I was personally in the same situation, I'm no doctor, and even if I was no one can really provide an accurate diagnosis without an exam of some kind. I would say if this persists do anything you can to get checked out, no free clinics in your area?

yea ima take your guys' advice and cut back to a few cigs a day and then quit. would go cold turkey but i've got enough stress in my life as it is and honestly, i love nicotine. Going to slow down on the ganj too..going to cut back to no more than a gram a day.

and as for exercise...anyone know any good cardio exercises? how long should my workout be?

^
Jogging.. and as long as you can go

Figure out what your baseline is and then make strides to improve on that each workout..

Jogging and biking are probably the best entry level cardio exercises. It's very frustrating at first, but you'll be surprised how fast you make progress and then start to enjoy it.

Don't jog- start with walking. Everyone tries jogging then they get cramps and winded and it sucks which can be seriously demotivating.

Try walking a mile at a brisk pace for a few days then start to slowly work in a jog for like 10-15 seconds then walk for 2 or 3 minutes then another 15 second jog etc... Always go super slow and don't overdo the exercise this helped with me a ton and I jog regularly now. It should take you a good few weeks to get from walking a mile to jogging an entire mile.

Go to a doctor and be honest about smoking herb and cigs and find out why you coughed up blood.

It's your health and I never have coughed up blood when I smoked tobacco or when I smoked herb for about 9 years and I'd freak out if something like that happened to me.

Good luck with cutting back/quitting cigs.

As for cardio I found doing it 3-4X a week for 30-40 mins either riding a bike, jogging/walking, swimming if you have access to a pool, or mixing them all up helps.

Also with running/jogging ease into it and start walking first as a warmup before you start to jog/run and then at the end before you stop. I've heard that most people can run/jog a full mile but how you do not want to start out doing this if you've never jogged/ran before or if you're starting up again after a long hiatus.
