Blackheads

I tried those strips and found them horribly irritating. And the blackheads didnt come out like in the commercials. Maybe I didnt really have blackheads, Im not sure. Ive seen some people with really noticable, black pores. I never had it that bad. What causes them?

Blackheads are caused by excess sebum (oil) production, causing the pores to become blocked. As the sebum oxidises, it turns black and eventually hardens.

I get blackheads on parts of my legs too - as the skin is less sensitive there, I just use a body scrub and loofah to remove them.

It's fun to shine a UV light on the strip afterwards..

I find that pore strips (any brand) do not do the job as well as my fingers can. I am a picker and a squeezer...I know I shouldn't.

Pore strips tend not to remove the blackheads on my nose that I really wanted gone. Note: leaving the strip on longer than directed does NOT help. It does help remove the top layer of skin off your nose though :(

^^ Agreed. You can put as much pressure, at the right angle, on any point you wish.

I recommend first an acidic face wash.. try to remove the dead skin.

Then use a strip to pull an even layer off..

Then pick at the ones that are real buggers.

Salycic (sp?) acid is good for getting rid of blackheads... look for a cleanser, toner and moisturiser that has it listed in the ingredients

Use an Exfoliating (spelling?) face wash cream.
Go out and get some sun, that usually does wonders for oily skin.
Swim at the beach, the salt water is also great for getting ur skin dry.
But, not everyone has access to a beach and decent sun of course:(

I had kindof crappy skin for awhile with a few pimples here and there and lots of blackheads on my nose especially. I tried several antibiotic and topical prescriptions and although they helped control breakouts, they didn't completely clear up my face. Then I decided to try to mother of all acne medications: accutane. I've been on it for almost 3 months now, and although it dries out your skin like none other, it works marvelously and slows oil production for YEARS after you stop using it.

while blackheads may annoy us.....they are a natural part of the human face. Unless you are getting like, serious infected pimples with painful inflammation....then leave the blackheads alone!!

Of course remove the largest and most obvious ones. But I think we have a tendency to stare into that mirror and look at the blackheads thinking "man, I've got to get them all....I need to squeeze that one, no that one....and that one.."

You may get like 20 but there are 500 other ones.

It's not like other people can see them unless they hold a magnifying glass to your face. Most people have them anyway.

:)

I know it is probably not the best thing to do, but I push the hell out of those fuckers. After I shower up, I work from the tip of my nose to bridge and apply pressure as needed. Sometimes my skin breaks and I look like Rudolph for 10 minutes but I'd much rather sport that look than the "white chocolate chip dangling for the nose" one.

I have to say Im really against picking at the skin. I dont recommend it to anyone who is acne prone. Ive gotten severe, inflamed cysts that left bad scarring from picking at blackheads when I was younger. Resist the temptation! :o

I did a google search for "white chocolate chip" and this is one of the images that came up. Don't worry, it's just a cookie.

Here's what I do, I was my face with twice daily with a specially formulated face soap with embedded exfoliating beads. When I wash my face at night I use a cleanser following the wash. It seems to really keep them down.

You wouldn't really notice them unless you got extremely close to my face, but the prominent ones I take care of by hand. We're talking about those little plugged pores on/around the nose right?
