A newbie question:
Obviously black=good, the blacker the better.
What about dark purple? What are some of the differences that can cause a purple reaction? Different MD*? Binders? Impurities?

Well, you actually said it yourself already ;-)
Add temperature of the liquid, temp. of the air. Particles in the air and a whole bunch of other things that could influence the reaction.
The official color is actually darkblue.
If you know physics (I don't) then the machines will tell you that the darkpurple/almost black we are always looking for is actually a sort of very dark blue (which for anyone else is definitely a very dark purple).

Hi Templar,
If you ever get to test some pure MDMA (which I sincerely hope you DO!) you'll see it go the most brilliant dark purple. In fact, it should even fizz a little (as pure amphetamine will also).
If you then look at the plate under a VERY strong sunlight or incandescent bulb, you MAY be able to see it has a blueish quality, but it is NOT easy to see. Fizzing darkish purple should be a fine indication for almost anyone of a good substance though.
