trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ALyw5ukA7fE

I just saw a preview for this movie and my guess is that it's going to stir up alot of controversy.....Samuel L Jackson stars as a old blues musician who locks Christina Ricci inside of his house in order to cure her of her nymphomania.

So whats everybody think? Racist piece of crap? The feel good hit of the year? A pathetic attempt to shock audiences? Or all of the above?

oh the hilarity!
the "buddy comedy" has reached a new pinnacle.

am i being sarcastic?

hell i don't even know!

Watched this today and has just been relased on dvd (maybe). This bumpage may gain a few posts.
I really liked most of it. There were some huge LoL moments.
Oh and Justin Timberlake makes a surprisingly good effort in his role.
Not a great ending.

BTW
Christina Ricci is HOT in this film

:D

From the trailer I think Christina Ricci looked anorexic in that film.

I saw this a year or so ago and was unimpressed.

I saw it again last night and thought it was close to brilliant. Then again, I was on 4-AcO-DMT, cannabis, Adderall, poppy tea, and vin blanc. The Glen Beck show would have seemed deep.

I remember when The Addams Family came out, I thought "That little girl who plays Wednesday is gonna grow up to be a beautiful woman someday." :)

^ lol @ Glen Beck. That's awesome. :)

Yeah, I avoided this movie because I don't approve of the basic plot... like at all.

I'll have to see what you guys vote. Personally I thought it looked horrible. Is this chick in it actually involved sexually with the man in any way? Cause I think that is kinda gross...but that is just me.

I love this movie.. got so many off color aspects, of color for the cinema, but right on color for life.. the mental illness, drugs, a little naked white girl chained in a black guys house, the blues. I definitely dug it.. think im going to watch it again tonight.

NSFW:

I'll have to watch it, I might later on today.

Edit - Watched it, really enjoyed it.

That clip above is one of the best bits, especially when white girl and black girl do sexy dance and black girl twerks that ass lol :)

I just voted and gave it a 4. Who'd give it a 2?! Come on now.

I liked the film (a lot) but it relies a little too heavily on shock and sensationalism to be great. It's a bit pretentious at times, too. I understand, personally, why people might give it 2 stars. There's not a lot being said about race, or much of anything else, but it seems like there should be. The average critical response was 2.5 stars.

3/5

imdb ratings are often absurd.

By "critical response", I meant the response from critics.

critics 8) I could give a shit what 1/10 of them say.. you know what i mean.. I mean i only give a shit what 2/10 of my friends think let alone some flappen critic.

Fair enough.

More often than not, in my opinion, aggregates of critical responses are reasonable representations of how "good" a film is. Obviously the critics can't take into account people's personal taste. In other words: while I often disagree with critics, I see where they're coming from. Game of Thrones is not my cup of tea, for example, but I can acknowledge that it is a well rounded show with excellent production values and superb acting. Therefore, the critical praise is warranted. I'd say the same thing about There Will Be Blood. Personally, it's way too Oscar hungry and self-aware of it's brilliance for me. But, clearly it is an impressive film. It is a critics role to be as objective as possible, which is quite a difficult thing to do.

Black Snake Moan is ironically racist (albeit intentionally so) and exploitative. The title itself is intentionally offensive. The film tries very hard to push people's buttons, and it succeeds somewhat. I can't help but think, though: there are other more deserving films that don't resort to such gimmickry. While I enjoy it on a personal level, it doesn't - objectively - deserve 4 stars. And, that is why the critical response averages out at 2.5.

If I was a critic I'd give it 2.5.

I gave it 3/5, because it appeals to the provocateur in me and because Christina Ricci is hotter than hell in the film. (Hence, the extra half star.)
