Hi so I made a thread not so long ago regarding making yoj feel the effects of codeine more. As I currently take max dosage on both I'm looking for something to enhance the feeling of tramadol would tumeric and black pepper as someone on my.other post mentioned would work with codeine ?

Thanks in advance

We have been discussing this topic in some other recent threads that you might want to check out. Yes, Black Pepper contains Piperine, which does lead to increased absorption of substances through the gut. If all of the conditions are right and you take the Black Pepper at the right time, you could probably expect a 10% increase in effects. If you want to be generous, let's say you can maybe get 20% of a potency increase. This is an imperceptible boost in dosage. You will only be left with a mindfuck, wondering if it worked or didn't. You might then just start taking Black Pepper all the time, never knowing for certain what it is or isn't doing.

For this reason, I usually tell people that dealing with these "poentiators" is a waste of time and energy. In the world of pharmacology, there are certain drugs that can truly be potentiated in a significant way. Let's say we're talking about Methadone. We know that if a person takes Fluvoxamine (Luvox), an SSRI antidepressant concurrently with Methadone, that the potency of the Methadone can be boosted up to 50%.

For the drugs that you're describing, I have been there, done that and I truly feel the whole thing is a waste of time. The real key to regaining efficacy/boosting potency is by reducing your tolerance. You have to take less, reduce your tolerance and go from there.

It is important to note that black pepper acts as a mao-inhibitor; I think mao-b-i selectively, which does not have effect on serotonin, but could add to stimulation a bit if used in deliberately large doses because tramadol is snri. But you might want to check just to be sure that it has no mao-a-i function.

I advice at least caution combining tramadol with selective mao-b-i also because tramadol has at least three remarkable factors that lower seizure threshold or actually I don't even know if I can recommend it at all.

I was kinda considering trying it with tramadol rather than Codeine as I don't have any Codeine at the moment. So I'm confused with your reply. Would you recommend taking it to increase the effects ?

The tumeric and black pepper is in one capsule whereas i bought a bunch. Think about 15. Would I take it at the same time or would after taking the tramadol still work. Say upto 2 hours after? Or strictly at the same time

I have no knowledge of the improvement of bioavailability Keif' Richards is talking about.

I am bit high* and I am not sure at what you are exactly confused about. But black pepper has compounds which in large enough amounts slow down/prevent metabolization of various neurotransmitters.

"MAO-A generally metabolizes tyramine, norepinephrine, serotonin, and dopamine (and other less clinically relevant chemicals). In contrast, MAO-B metabolizes dopamine and β-phenethylamine, as well as other less clinically relevant chemicals." -wikipedia

I just tried to figure it out with just search engine, mostly crashing to paywalls, but I found out that black pepper compounds and their metabolites in have also really minor mao-a-inhibitor activity. So while that function is not as remarkable as the mao-b-inhibition of black pepper compounds, it is still increasing risk of serotonin syndrome/seizure when used along with tramadol, which also prevents reuptake of serotonin. I am pretty certain you would really have to go into deep end with consuming black pepper for this risk to be notable. AFAIK there is not even guidelines to avoid black pepper as spice on SSRI/SNRI-regimen.

Black pepper is much stronger as mao-b-inhibitor. So it increases levels of some excitatory and other neurotransmitters in blood plasma, like dopamine and phenethylamine. I tried to gather what kind of risk that would present with tramadol consumption, and apparently dopamine for example has both anti-seizure AND pro-seizure effects.

So, I am not recommending it. One capsule of some commercial black pepper/turmeric-product is probably fine, but I am not recommending it because as Keif said benefits are limited and fleeting and I don't have enough knowledge if there is realistic risk of seizure or not. Probably not, but I am not recommending it.

*I am really fucked up
