A friend of mine was tallinf about how she used to do black beauty and she raved about how great they were are they still available and if so what are they comsidered one...

I think the time frame we're talking about here (for ephedre being popular) is more of a 70's thing, whereas the meth craze--if you were anywhere but riding with the Angels themselves--didn't hit 'til a good decade or two later.

The Black Beauties of old were amphetamine, not ephedrine. I've had them, when I was a kid in the '70s. Very nice.
Alas, they've gone the way of quaaludes - Another fine drug you younguns will never get the chance to sample.

All I know is that I haven't seen a Black Beauty for years. I suppose it's possible to get pure amphetamine (my pharmacologist wife used to work in a lab where she had access to it), but I don't see a lot of it around here.

"My Little Witch" your mention of "Black Beauties","Yellow Jackets" and "Ludes" all bring back memories of the summer of '74...what a great time! The slang names for many of the capsules came from there color, "Black Beauties" being black, "Yellow Jackets" being yellow and black like a yellow jacket bee etc.etc.

The 70's-era "yellow jackets" definitely have nothing at all to do with today's ephedrine/caffeine Yellow JacketsTM. Those "yellow jackets" were Nembutal (pentobarbital). I'm pretty sure that "black beauties" is an olden days slang term for Benzedrine (amphetamine). Which you can still sample nowadays in pharmaceutical preparations such as Adderal and Dexedrine. They aren't quite the same as Benzedrine but they definitely get the job done.

For some reason I remember "black beauties" being dexedrine, but I am certain it was a pharmaceutical amphetamine. No doubt now it's some ephedra/pseudophedrine crap kids buy from the back of "High Times".
