I'd had this idea. It was one of those "I'm high and bored and nothing amusing is in social right now so I'm gonna put some thought into another forum!" sorta ideas.
A fiction co-op project, based in the Words forum (duh), with a common background. Be it science fiction, fiction, poetry, whatever! But a common theme of sorts would have to be found and built upon. A theme can be something as simple as a city that it would take place in, to a series of moods or emotions that want to be conveyed by the writings.
Personaly, I'd think it could turn out really interestingly. Or, it could flop and we could all go on with our lives hating me forever for coming up with such an austoundingly retarded idea!
Obviously, this is in the pre-anything stage. Just an idea of a mad Republican on drugs. Comments? Interest? Ideas? Gripes? Lets hear them. Anyone interested, for now, lets just post here w/in this forum. We can move to email/organizational issues later when an interest has been created.
I'm biased, a bit, but a darker, near future "Scifi" theme is NOT limited to lazer guns and aliens bombing the earth. I think with the right background idea, we could satisfy EVERYONE with such a setting and theme. But again, I'm up for whatever. Maybe a series of these projects. We try one, see how it works, if it sucks we'll just throw beer caps at GL and heckle him? Ok. Swell.
Sure, I'm not the most AVID poster here, but I do lurk and occasionaly interject something. Hey, I gotta be serious SOMETIMES, right? :)
(sidenote: I don't know if this has been tried before, but if so please let me know, what were the results? Bad/Good? Not worth a second shot?)

Talked about and never attempted dear. But I still think it's a wonderful idea... hoping we follow through on it!
What are your thoughts on this? The first thing that jumped to mind was finding a common theme, something very simple (I really like your idea of a town, a place for it all to happen) and then having various people write a short story, poem, anything at all about it. Maybe a chapter a person? I would bet that we could come up with some incredible stuff... the minds we have here are unbelievably talented. Any takers? This could be handled on the board, with it's own thread, or via email, or we could even set up a simple board on another site for submissions.
As far as the style of writing, do we want to limit it to one? I LOVE sci-fi, but I've never tried writing it. Why not different types of genre on the same topic? Just a thought... let's discuss this some more, okay?

I THINK
It's a great idea.
Soooo...why keep TALKING and DO!?
C'mon. You'll enjoy it. Everyone!
Group concensus on theme? Vote? something.

im all for this, if you can get the suppert for it, get a few people together and im definitely willing to give it a go. im in a hurry so i cant start rambling now, but i like the ideas youve had so far, ill be back ot contribute my own later :)
Summary: Good Idea, lets do it :D

hello everyone,
i would like to be a part of this.
so to get it rolling, the "town" idea has my vote of supprt. when you say sci-fi, do you mean off the whole bubble sci fi or more kurt vonnegut (i am more partial to the latter, mr. v)
let me know if there is gravity, a sliver of a sky, or maybe the pet shop boys are the mayors. for me, eastern cities in the usa, pittsburg, new york, baltimore, even as far west as chi and cleveland, i would love one of those or something like the cyberpunk equivalent.
ok enough yakking. give me the rules and let me loose.

Allright! Me n' Harraser chit-chatted about this little idea.
I'm going to make a @bluelight.ru email address. That will be used strictly for this little venture. I will then begin emailing anyones anyone who throws their name in on THIS post. OR to my new bluelight email addy.
We were thinking a city would be the best idea. This will be a city that doesn't actualy exist. This way, only a few "rules" will exist. The rest will be entirely up to you.
It might be as simple as "a city by a lake" to "a mid-sized metropolis near a oceanof considerable size" etc.
Now! As for what kinda scifi, I do NOT mean Asimovian-bubble-city-bullshit-with-nuclearzappercannons-and-martians. I mean gritty, near-future/dark future sorta stuff. Something more realistic. I have a cyberpunk fetish. :D But again, I'd like to see some more input from everyone before we just say "Here it is."
So, sign off here if you want now. Also, Harraser has agreed to put a link at the TOP of this page, so it's always there for the time being.
This is very early in the pre-starup phases. But I'm willing to put as much time as is needed into this to get it going. We're not looking for a finished product. What I'd LIKE to get outta this is one, big "living document"...the city/theme/whatever would evolve constantly. Take it wherever, ya know? See what the outcome is.

OK! After a little more discusion, we've decided what you could do that might work rather well, would be to maybe develop a character, or group of, because people evolve very nicely. Want to be more abstract? Go for it. :D
But thats ONE idea. This is going to be rather loosely designed.
Thanks for the email to those who've given it.
HERE IS MINE (it's really very complex)

I'm a little behind on the ins and outs of this but as far as I can tell there is still time for me to insert a suggestion. Let me preface it by saying this- Diversity is a useful tool when it comes to creating the "new" and "anticipated" so take my suggestions to heart but understand all things are simply what they are. I suggest you work on a story that is about a group of young adults that essentially have been "rejects" and socially the "lost" causes of society. I.E: A history of childhood molestation (one character) A history of social rejection attributed to sexual orientation differing from mainstream society (one character). Preferring to remain mute rather then vocal due to childhood trauma (one character). Sevier acts of hatred due to intense racial discrimination (one character). Finally social anxiety as a result of isolation- got to love parents of the youthful musically inclined.(one character). Know I say this because these seem to be "type" (if you will) of characters that would band up and dive into the super natural. This takes us into your desired Sci Fi theme. If all the characters live in different parts of this "city", "country", or "world" then they all have separate lives. What would happen if you wrote from each characters perspective but their lives kept intertwining. Then characters would appear in other sections but from different points of views via dreams, coincidence, so forth and so on.. Well at some point the characters have to all come together and stick together as a team with some Holy/Unholy mission (getting to that). Then from that point on the story could then became a "narrative" verses "perspective". Now check this, what if there was an entity that took pity on these characters because of there unfair backgrounds and decided to give them purpose...decided to give them abilities that we only read about in books like telepathy and telekinesis. What if this entity decided to make them his/her "Acolytes", like in church. Only Acolytes to something fare sinister then they could every imagined. Something involving the gathering of souls as sustenance for their NEW godlike sympathizer only it turns out that their new godlike "parent" is really the spouse of the one TRUE God. Now all kinds of Chaos gets released because these so called misfits have grown to love the only THING that has ever looked out for them. They will do anything to protect him/her even if it mean killing God. Or is God really God. Is God just some Humanoid supernatural techwisz from the future that was able to travel way back in time and leave a defective clone of him/ herself. Is man, man made? I could go on and on and on with this idea. So tell me what do you think? Idealism is contagious. DjDemoDirect.Co.Uk

I definitely want in on this big time! My email address is [email protected] , so please keep me updated...
As far as ideas go, I'm a big fan of the fantastic element in a pseudo-realistic setting...cyberpunk rather than Star Wars or comic books.
Everyone having individual characters that act and react with one another and with events imposed by an overseeing "narrator" would also be cool...sort of a roleplaying game but with more focus on storytelling. This is just an idea, and I've got a million different characters and ideas floating around in my head, but at this point I'm very happy to go along with whatever is settled on as the group direction.
Very much looking forward to jumping aboard!

The sky above the bay was the color of a television, tuned to a dead channel...

i'd love to be part of this. i don't have much experience with "sci-fi" in the futuristic armageddon sense...but as far as dark twisted fantasy type themes...that's right up my alley.
my e-mail is [email protected]

i tried e-mailing the above addr and it is refused. do you have another one set up or is it just a temporary bug?

So Join it. I'll have the mail sent out to that as soon as I figure out how to use the thing. :D
I've got my idea of "basics" ready. I'll post those later tonight as well on this message.
