indeed. I enjoyed it alot when I read it, but now want to give it a second reading.

How aobut we read something that not everyone has read... like survivor

How about something like Under the Banner of Heaven. Or are we only focusing on non-fiction

Fiction or nonfiction. We are going to choose a book based on a poll of books suggested by people in this thread.

Each person may suggest only one book, however. Which of the two you mentioned would you like to be your official suggestion, enod?

I suggest 'The Room' by Hubert Selby Jr. Simply because it's one of his books I haven't read. I've heard it is very dark and may not appeal to everyone but maybe it would be good to read something out of your comfort zone?

I don't know, I was thinking about calling it pretty soon.

Sometime tonight there will be a poll, so if anyone wants to make a suggestion who hasn't, now is the time.

:)

How is this going to work? Do we eventually read all the books suggested, or is there a poll with new books every time? Also, is there going to be a description or do we look that up ourselves?

I would definitely want to participate, since I read a lot as a good form of procrastination. My friends and I have currently been reading a lot of David Sedaris - he writes nonfiction, but he is hilarious and it is a fun read. The classics are always good, even if people have already read them in HS, since I think it is always interesting to find a new look at something older. In that case I'd want to suggest works from the beat period, like Kerouac and Burroughs.

So I'm definitely in!

There is going to be a new poll each time, but you can re-submit the same book every time until it is chosen, or failing that, indefinitely. I am going to leave it to you to look up descriptions if you are not familiar with the book.

Well here is a description of The Room by Hubert Selby Jr:

Secluded in his remand cell, a small-time petty criminal surrenders himself to the sadistic fantasies of hatred, rage and the powerless lust for revenge that are trapped inside him. Selby's second novel, the sequel to Last Exit To Brooklyn, is a claustrophobic descent into a man locked away in a loveless society.

You know, this might be a bit dark for some people. I haven't read junky yet, I fourth it :)

^One of the better books on "dystopia" I've ever read. It's like a capitalist version of 1984, which is of course, set up in a communist type regime.

This is a hard game, I'm staring at my bookshelf right now and I'm literally pulling out my hair trying to figure out which one I'd want bring to an open discusssion the most! Their literally the most important possessions I own (I hate owning shite). This is a tough one PW. ;)

I'm pretty much done with school for now, so I'm planning on getting started with the first book. I would think that might be the case for some others as well. Hopefully we'll be seeing some comments soon. I know it won't take me long to finish if it's an even halfway decent read.
