Billings man admits importing LSD

By CLAIR JOHNSON
Of The Gazette Staff

Suspicious behavior by a customer at a mailing business led to a Billings man's admission that he distributed LSD from a source in the Netherlands.

The customer, Robert Hauge, 28, pleaded guilty last week to a federal charge of possessing at least 10 grams of LSD, a hallucinogen, for distribution. A second count of trafficking Ecstasy, a stimulant, is to be dismissed at sentencing under the terms of a plea agreement. Hauge's case had been set for trial Monday.

An investigation by federal and local officers began in October 2007 after employees of PostNet, 2912 Grand Ave., reported that Hauge had visited the store almost daily in the previous two months to use the store's public computer and to mail packages to the Netherlands and other locations in the United States, court records said. Hauge minimized the screen and put his face close when he used the computer.

When Hauge left the store, the employees checked the computer's Internet history and saw Web sites related to LSD, Ecstasy, pill reports and the making of identification cards.
A month later, Hauge brought in four packages to be mailed. Investigators had a sniffing dog check eight packages, and the dog responded to Hauge's four packages. Armed with a search warrant, officers opened the packages and found $6,400 in a package to be sent to Amsterdam and LSD and Ecstasy tables in the three other packages.

Law enforcement officers obtained a search warrant for Hauge's home and found 2,300 doses of LSD and 1,600 Ecstasy tablets. Hauge told officers that he had been receiving the drugs from a source in Amsterdam for about a year.

The source would send Hauge the drugs, and he would distribute them to other customers. Hauge would mail cash back.

Hauge estimated he sent about $3,000 a month to the source and had received about 10,000 Ecstasy pills and 2,000 to 3,000 doses of LSD.

Hauge faces a minimum mandatory 10 years to life in prison and a maximum $4 million fine.

Chief U.S. District Judge Richard Cebull set sentencing for Sept. 30. Hauge remains in custody.

Why the hell would an American import LSD? That's be like an Colombian importing cocaine into Colombia - pointless and of much lower quality. This guy should go hang out in San Fran for a week or two

Cause the Hoffman/ Rolling Stone hits don't originate in the USA.

I'd bet money he had Hoffman or Stone's hits.

The LSD coming out of Europe is considerably stronger in my experience, more dosed to where you only need one, where as in the US you normally need at least 2.

But the story doesn't really make sense, how could he have 10 grams but only 2000-3000 doses?

I bet he didn't have crystal just tons of sheets of blotter, definitely feel bad for him, but he sure wasn't being safe. Using post office computer etc...

10 grams would a 100,000 hits no?

thats what everyone i know, that has had american and european trips, said about the american ones ;)

LSD is LSD , I can assure you that the batches we get around here are as good as the european stuff. Our liquid is always really good and the only things that are weaker sometimes would be blotters. And thats only because they float for so long and degrade.

Our liquid is delicious =D

With LSD on blotter, the weight of the blotter paper is added to the weight of the LSD for the total amount of LSD considered to be in possession.

I feel for the guy but he was not too bright. And why admit to the cops anything? Everything you say will be used against you.

It's insane that certain substances are forbidden. A bunch of guys somewhere write down a list of things that they decided are taboo for you to possess. If you are caught with one of these forbidden things in your hand, in your pocket or in your house you will be put into a cage and kept there for years. Such is life under the tyranny of evil men.

i wonder if the employees have any friends

QFT.

But it is important to note WHY they decide some things should be illegal -
because they are enlightening (or fun).
They want to keep the public dumbed down.
They don't want people getting too many ideas.
They want production high.
They don't want people to question the sanity of working a boring job for their whole lives.
That is why tobacco and alcohol are legal, but not LSD and ecstasy.
Heroin - illegal because it might effect production.
Ritalin - legal (with prescription) because it shuts the kids up so that they can become another cog in the machine.
LSD - illegal, since people might leave their white-collar jobs to become artists and musicians.
Tobacco - legal because people can push themselves to produce more.
Ecstasy - illegal because people might spend their time following their passions.
Caffeine - legal because people will work harder.
etc. etc. etc.

This is about as sensical as anything I've read on TOTSE when it was around.

That is, entirely nonsensical.

As if LSD causes people to become artists and musicians. LOL talk about a stereotype.

The last time I checked tobacco has no performance enhancing properties. It's hard to find studies showing that nicotine is even psychoactive for regular users. Hell, it's hard to find this for moderate users.

Mostly nonsense because

Why is methcathinone illegal?
Cocaine illegal?
Aminorex? 4-MAR?

Also, last time I checked, industry generally rewards forward thinkers because they help companies stay on the leading edge and ahead of competitors.

This whole line of reasoning is nonsense.

10grams of LSD is what? By my count one gram is 10x10packs & ten grams would be one hundred ten packs(ten sheets) so roughly 1000 sheets of paper.

LSD is illegal because the USA gov. got scared shitless after testing it on solders who put down their guns & refused to fight.
If the pharmaceutical complex can make money from it or their $ is threatened by it.

Robert Hauge if you ever read this i think your a dirty fucking snitch & belong in jail. Its sad to think how many tax dollars are going to pay agents watching clowns while jerking it under the desk do nothing for several years straight. I've even seen them dump grand into watching a 14year old(years back) and many other kids for a year+ a whiiile back.

Maybe, but I don't think so.
This is an idea I am just playing with, but I will pursue it in hopes of seeing how deeply I can push it, or if it crumbles.

LSD helps people wake up from their mindless pursuits of money and status, and helps them awaken to the idea of following their dreams. They may dream of being a doctor, instead of a musician, but I was speaking loosely.

Tobacco contains nicotine, which is a stimulant. It helps people work for another hour when their bodies are requesting sleep. Then another cigarette helps them work for another hour.

Cocaine is not generally conducive to business - people just don't want to continue making marketing calls in hopes of selling janitorial services when they are coked up. They would rather talk about themselves, or about nothing at all. Additionally, it is highly addictive and expensive, leading to reduced worktime and theft.

I am not familiar with the other drugs you named.

This is actually essentially what I was saying, Hammilton.
Production - and protecting the status quo - is the name of the game.
If soldiers won't fight, everything the gov. needs falls apart.
If business people won't work, everything falls apart.
If big pharma doesn't make money, everything falls apart.
This is why certain drugs are illegal, and others aren't.
