Best way to put on weight?

Personal preference, I guess. Far, far too much risk of injury w/ the oly lifts for me (I lift alone, music blaring, and sometimes go a little too hard. I can control this problem WAY easier w/ PL's v olympic moves, yknow?)
Plus, the olympic moves don't really have many advantages that I can see - the necessary focus on form and executing the motion properly takes away from the ability to focus more on the lift itself. I do understand - and endorse - the dynamic/explosive aspect of these (olympic) lifts, however, I do explosive (dynamic effort) lifts and heavy(max effort) approaches on the PL's ;P

And yeah, angie's a bitch. FUCK ANGIE! Hate her but always went back for more ;)

And I really hope this was a bit of a misspeak on your end. If it's true, and no offense or anything, but if true that's an absurdly selfish, short-sighted mindset IMO. Just being all about yourself - even in superficial ways - is ugly, if one doesn't have a higher purpose in life than nurturing their body, they're really missing out and, imo again, really not doing much useful for the planet :/

Umm, you cannot do ANYTHING without your body. Without it you are most certainly, going to be a drain on society. You cannot do good, you cannot work, you cannot do charitable things, you cannot love, you cannot help.. if your body is not working properly.. if you are sick, if you are lathargic and fucked up from lack of certain vitamins, if you have nerve damage from deficiency's or simple mental fatigue from lack of good food. Good health trumps all, really, it does.

It all is only possible with your body being in good health. Tell me, how the fuck can you help people if you cant even help yourself. Sounds pretty selfish to me, right. 8)

Oh and back to the OP, I was actually just talking IRL about something similar and wanted to elaborate on water a little.

When people say to drink a lot of water on a bulk - you need to understand your water needs rise w/ your food intake. If you're close to dehydration, food is very bad, the body will pull water to digest it and further dehydrate you. So when you're on a bulk, you're gonna find the water levels to be in the "annoying" range along w/ the food, if you're a hard-gainer type.

Yes health is important but diet is only one aspect of that. I would guess mental health and general lifestyle overall will make MUCH for of a difference than being overly concerned with organic or GM foods.

Eating a nutritious diet can be an expression of caring for yourself , but it can also be an obsession or a way of forming an identity that you are better than those others who eat a "dirty" diet.

Balance in everything. SangerRainsford makes a lot of good points. Finding joy in your life satisfying work/relationships will probably do more for your health than eating 3 organic meals each day.

wouldnt you just have to ingest more calories than you expend?

losing weight = expend more calories than ingest
gaining weight = ingest more calories than you expend.

Since I'm in such a giving mood, I decided to edit as much of the bullshit out of this thread as possible, and re-open it. This was perhaps the saddest excuse for a thread that I've seen in Healthy Living...

Stop trolling each other and antagonizing in general, and keep the discussion on-topic, or I'll just delete the entire thread.

^^haha sorry :( did u get my pm?

OP-hows the weight gaining coming along? care to update us on it?

^ yeh any progress reports from the original poster?

Things that make me pack on weight fast:

Healthy:
Peanut butter (100% peanut)
Eggs
Milk
WPC shakes
Rolled Oats

Less Healthy:
Carbohydrate heavy food (bread/pasta etc)
Cheese
Chocolate

Unhealthy:
Alcohol
Mirtazapine 8)

Should be in your diet regardless of weight-goals:
Lots of fruit and vegetables (the more variety the better)
Either fish oil or another rich source of omega-3 fatty acids (flax seed oil, chia seeds etc)
Lean meat and/or beans, pulses, legumes

good lil list ;P I'd just add that cheese is healthy to a degree, depending of course - and that alcohol, if abused, is fucking HORRIBLE for anabolism/muscle growth. If you get "drunk" 2-3X monthly, your test levels will never be close to where they would otherwise be (and a million other negative effects for anabolism, but that's probably the most notable)

The "best" way to put on weight, from my definition of "best" is to slowly increase your caloric intake to allow your body to readjust appropriately. When you suddenly load your body with thousands more calories than it is used to, it can't be healthy. So my version of best is the healthiest and safest way to avoid stressing out your digestive track.

Also, veggies, beans, and whole grains. IMO, the heavy load of dairy products (your protein shakes) are hard on your body.
