best way to lose weight...at home

Buy 60lbs sandbag. Pick from floor to shoulder, then elevate up (lift from shoulders to arms up position). Put down repeat until cant lift any more. This is called a clean and press, and it is part of a circuit, where you also would do push ups, and if you are strong enough - vertical push ups against wall -, jump squats with sandbag on shoulder and some sprints for laughs. Repeat circuit thrice. Do thrice a week i.e M-W-F. It is imperative to give yourself two days rest before starting again the next week.

Every month go up by 10lbs with the sandbag and by the end of the month try to achieve, in repetitions, what you could do the month before at that same time, with 10lbs less.

Once you are handling 150lbs for some reps in the clean and press, you will be one conditioned beast, and will have the muscle to account for it. On the meantime, it will burn blubber like there is no tomorrow, and if you are a newbie, you will probably get away with eating like shit and still losing fat.

I used to weigh quite a lot (BMI was a 26 iirc and now it's 21-23), everyone always says how skinny I am.

Stop buying a lot of food. Buy lots of green tea, whole grain bread (look for 'whole grain wheat flour' on the label, not just regular wheat flour), and high protein spreads like hummus or low fat cream cheese. Try to avoid eating anything else, and try to eat every 1-3 hours. Fruits and salads and low fat meats (shrimp, fish, chicken, turkey) are fine, as they're low glycemic/low fat usually. Avoid most cheeses if possible.

If you really wanna push it off fast, do sprints (3-4 sprints at maximum running speed for as long as you can) or start lifting weights, and eat protein shakes or protein bars afterwards.

You can order weights online for as little as $40-60 for a small set of dumbells, and http://www.exrx.net/ has some good instructions for beginners on how to lift.

detergent, i dont' think i could ever cut out rice either (asian, sorta :D ;)).

i am not a big fan of veggies at all. like, i'll eat carrots and potatoes, broccoli, all types of lettuce but not much aside from that. i need to diversify my pallette :\

i eat pretty frequently throughout the day (at least 5-6) but what i eat is crap. i'm thinking of coming to some sort of agreement with my mom that if she dumps all of the unnecessary shit, gives me a few bucks for food that i'll do the shopping and cooking 3x a week. compromise is difficult with her since she's a huge control freak but since this will be taking the burden off of her, she might be up for it.

an update on my cupboard: i didn't take pics but i went through and counted how many of each item i had. chips: 21 bags (not including the big bag filled with the mini snack bags), cookies: 14 boxes (not including the individual packs meant for lunches), crackers: 18 boxes (again, not including the individual snack packs), candy: 8 big bags (not individual bars but bags with the fun size bars. it is close to halloween so it might be for that but i've seen my mom and sister and unfortunately, my daughter munching on them for the past few days), misc. snack items (like fruit snacks, granola bars, honey buns, etc): 7 boxes.

some of these items have been in there for years and are past their expiration date, some havent' even been opened yet and my mom continues to buy more. whenever there is empty space, she buys more crap to fill it in.

her excuse? "what if there's an emergency? we'll need food to eat." yes, we're going to live off of candy, chips, cookies and microwavable crap. seeing as how an emergency would mean no electricity, i don't see how that's gonna happen. 8(

Try different ways of cooking them and using different types of herbs/spices. My girlfriend hated veggies before I started cooking for her and it was just a matter of finding the right way to season them. Same with fish, she HATED it before but that was because she had always been served poorly cooked fish.

Since you said you don't have a lot of room in your fridge, and things go bad easily in your house... my suggestion is to buy bags of frozen fruits/veggies. These are CHEAP and healthy and don't go bad for months. You can dethaw the mixed fruit and have that for breakfast/dessert. And throw in some frozen broccoli or a mixed veggie into some pasta w/ olive oil.... that's good too.

I'm trying to lose weight right now too.... I gained a little after quitting drugs... so I'm in the same boat right now too.. Just giving a little advice I think might help!!!

Good luck!!

And look up resistance exercises such as tricep dips on a chair, lunges, etc. There's lots of stuff you can do w/o gym equipment!

a little update: i've only lost about 3 lbs but i'm not worried too much. i haven't been sticking to my diet as i've been home very little (i'm trying to avoid my mother) but i am eating better. i've recently picked up hooping (hula hooping) and i really, really enjoy it. i'm not doing it so much for exercise as i am for fun but it's really helping in the exercise/weight loss dept. which is fine by me! my daughter also loves it so it's something that we do together which is nice.

a few weeks ago, my mom was informed she might have a tumor and 2 weeks ago, a MRI scan confirmed it. as fucked up as this sounds, i'm kinda glad she's dealing with this because (hopefully) it will make her see that in order to recover from this she'll need to take care of herself (i.e. eating properly, getting enough sleep, etc.). i'm going to contact her dr. and surgeon and let both of them know of her eating habits and i'm hoping they'll say something to her about it. how can anyone recover from brain surgery when they live off of 1 meal a day which consists of potato chips and candy? 8(

i still haven't brought up the cooking proposal since she seems to be pretty irrational when anyone tries to talk to her but i guess she's just upset and stressed out. i spoke with my grandma (her mom) and ran some of my ideas by her and she said they're great but my grandma is a rational person and can compromise, my mother is incapable of both.

firefighter, my freezer is packed too. frozen waffles, ice cream, popsicles, etc. (mostly my sister's food) takes up all the room. i always have frozen veggies around because i can just heat them up and give them to my daughter as a snack (she LOVES it!) or as you said, cook them and throw them into a salad or into a pan with some olive oil. yum!

Man I hate winter. All I keep doing is gaining weight and being lazy and depressed. I wish I could still do some *amphetamines* :)

Cut all gluten out of your diet! ie Grains.
cut out carbs almost completely. this one is incredibly effective. Not touching bread/pasta and compensating with lean protein and vegetables will reduce fat fast as fuck.
Stupidest advice so far in this thread. Walk at least 1 hour a day, do not smoke, do not drink, do not drink coffee, do not drink soda pop, avoid any refined sugar, red meat, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils/fats, high salt foods. None of these are hard to do or hard to spot in consumer products.

That. Is. Disgusting. I hope you don't feed that to your daughter, because honestly that is child abuse. Tell your mother she's going to die before 65-70 of a horribly painful heart attack or disease and not be so foolish about her food purchasing habits.

I find that many people don't like veggies because they have only eaten grocery store crap their whole lives. Try to find a local source of veggies...if you still don't like them.......they are good for you, they'll help you loose weight.

basically, eat a healthy diet and exercise (a yoga video/book is cheap). this is how you loose weight and it isn't easy for most people. also, being hungry is a part of weight loss. you will be hungry all of the time.

good luck!
