I'm pretty sure this is the right place for this thread, but I'm not 100% sure.

Anyways, ever since I was about 13 I've had acne. Not the horrible cystic kind, but it's mild. I usually have it under control, meaning I can get it so there's not strong red marks, but so the acne is very light and not as noticeable. The thing is, I've never actually been able to get rid of it completely.

At the moment I wash my face twice a day. Once in the morning, and once at night. That doesn't keep the acne under much control so I add two drops of 97% Wild Oil of Oregano into the face wash. So far it's helped my skin look healthier, and overall better, but it's still not helping the acne go away completely.

Does anyone know of any really good acne medication or supplements that worked really well for them? Throughout the years I've tried Erythromycin, Tetracycline, ProActive (which absolutely destroyed my face a year ago, it got so bad that my acne started to cyst, I only recovered from the damage it did about 3 months ago), and Benzyl Peroxide (helped a bit, but I don't like how it slows down the healing process of the acne). I've also tried two other medications but I can't remember the names.

I'm not looking for any antibiotic's anymore since they basically reset the process when you quit them. I'm looking for something more natural, possibly a topical cream or something like what I'm currently using (Wild Oil of Oregano).

Any help would be appreciated, and if this is in the wrong forum feel free to move it as needed.

Thanks in advanced.

How about using "Clear Pore"- cleanser/mask by neutrogena. It can be used as a daily face wash or as a facial mask not to be exceeded more than 3 times per week. This formulation contains a 3.5% benzoyl peroxide solution.
Have you tried Differin Gel? It's a prescription but for me it worked 1000 times better than Retin-A.

Wild oil of oregano? You sure are trying to earn the "pizza face" moniker!

I'm over 30 and STILL have breakouts, so I recently spent a year trying all sorts of creams and topicals until i finally hit on the stuff that has kept it under control. Everyone's skin is different, so this may not work for everyone, but here are the ones that did it for me:

- Murad "pure skin clarifying" supplement. Hey, this is a drug forum, right? Had to include some pills... This is basically a multi vitamin spiked with good-skin stuff (yes, I have a phd in chemistry). I was skeptical when I first tried them, since I figured anything that might help zits would actually have to go ON your skin, but i was wrong. When I stopped taking the pills, the acne returned. Highly recommended.

- mural clarifying toner

- Peter Thomas Roth sulfur mask: lately sulfur seems to be "where it's at" for fighting acne. At least for me, it seem to work better than benzoil p or salysilic acid. I apply the mask 3 times a week before I take a shower. Leave it on for 20 mins or so. Once again, this particular product really passed the ultimate test - if I stop using it, the zits come back.

- speaking of sulfur, END-ZIT is possibly the most amazing product of all. It's a spot treatment, which means you apply it to a pimple that has already formed or, more importantly, to a spot where you can tell one is getting ready to form (you know the drill - a little red mark is beginning to form, a bump, a feeling, or any of your own personal telltale signs that an ass munching pimple is about to make an unwelcome house call and annoy the shit out of you for a week.

Anyway, as soon as you notice the early warning signs, apply END-ZIT to the spot and, more often than not, this stuff will prevent the pimple from forming, or at least make it far less of an event. It really is an awesome product.

There are many more that help keep skin clean, etc, but these are the ones that I feel have made the biggest difference.

Good luck, and remember not to rub your face in Mountain Dew.

I use to use a wash cloth water only twice daily on face/neck, now once a day is enough
Still use some hydrocortisone cream if something pops up that I don't like, I am a veteren of every 90's skincare product, roacutane antibiotics etc
Found in life as more things fall into place the less problems I would get, so attitude, direction , diet exercise healthiness which was a bitch for me with my family and maladjustments... no quick easy pills ever really worked.

Out of emerging acne treatments the Mayo clinic is liking lasers, but I don't know about availability and cost.

A B-complex vitamin twice a day helped a friend of mine a lot. I'm sure its not going to help everyone but it is cheap & unlikely to cause problems.

My guess is that healthy living is the best fit, but a lot of times its good for a thread to spend sometime in more than one forum to get wider feedback.Second opinion has had some threads on the subject as well. Here are a couple of previous threads in case they have any useful ideas.

The most effective medication for acne (at least in my opinion) would probably be Accutane. However, Accutane is known to be rather hard on the liver, so probably only use it if you have a severe outbreak.

I had the absolute worst acne for years and years and I was on just about every single prescription medicine you can think of. Some of them worked pretty good for a little while but I would always get used to it then I'd have to end up switching to something new. After about 3-4 years trying a bunch of different medicines, none of them seemed to work until my dermatologist finally decided to put me on Accutane. I was on it for a total of 5 months and it was pretty much a miracle for my face. The only thing I didn't like about it was the dry lips it gave me but it was so worth it. I have not had any breakouts since I've stopped taking Accutane and I also haven't had to use OTC medicines.

EoTorv: I read a thread that you recommended and that's actually another topical cream I was on. The BenzaClin didn't help at all. I seem to have skin that doesn't like medications, which is why I'm trying to go natural.

John: What's wrong with Wild Oil of Oregano? I've heard it's very effective against acne due to its strong anti-oxidant propertys and other shit. Am I missing something?

Also, about Accutane, doesn't that shit cause suicidal thoughts and what not? I heard it's absolutely horrible for the mind/body. Am I wrong?

^^

i constantly see lawyer commercials for accutane for it causing crohn's disease and inflamatory bowel disease. people are suing for millions and shit.

Tazorac..you have to get it from your doctor. It really made a big difference for me, and trust me I've tried so many products! You smooth on a light layer before bed each night.

I use Proactive, which works awesome but it's expensive. So if I don't have the dough for that, I use Biore warming scrub, and then at night I use clean and clear or anything with salicylic acid.. i think they are all the same - but they are usually on sale at Ocean State Job Lot .. or any dollar store like that so total cost $7.50

If you would have read my post you would know that Pro-Active destroyed my face.

It has bleach in it. It worked beautifully for 2 weeks then I broke out worse then I have ever before. I have severe cystic acne for 5 months after pro-active, and I've finally just got it back to normal.

don't touch your face with your hands... and go see a dermatologist, thats the best way coz lots of acne meds are not otc

Soooooooooooooo true... when I was bartending I would break out all the time from sweating and touching my face + make up doesn't help.<3

I guess it works for some people.... everyone is different for me it works great. But I've never had a problem with any product.

I am in no way confident in this answer that I am about to share with you, but I do know that girls often use birth control pills to make acne subside. However, due to hormonal issues and differences between genders I cannot say for sure if this would work for you personally.

And I'm sorry I missed the part where you said proactive destroyed your face. Are you male or female? If you are female some birth control pills help..

Accutane isnt really meant as a long term solution. It does work really well, but it's also really bad for you. Meant for the worst cases that don't respond to other treatments. I wouldn't recommend it unless as a last resort.

The products I suggested are for daily use/upkeep. I think the key to clear skin is finding the stuff that works on you and getting into a routine of using just enough to keep the zits at bay and doing so religously every day. Preventative maintenance is what we all really want, the products that clear pimples AFTER they have formed are the products we hope will gather dust :-)

Keep your face clean, use sunscreen (zinc oxide is by far the best) every day, apply a treatment that works (benzoil, sulfur, salysilic acid, whatever) as your preventative maintenance every day (not just when you get a pimple) and use a really good, expensive moisturizer every night before you hit the sack.

For my entire life i put up with acne (and I'm well past 30) but when I started doing what ive described in this thread I turned it all around.

Hey, when you're 30 and single ya got to use every last trick in the book to stay looking good!

Yea stay away from Accutane unless you've tried everything else and nothing works whatsoever because while it's considered the most effective acne medication, it's also got some rather nasty adverse effects.
