I am really wanting to cut out alcohol as it's been killing me lately, and I have an appointment with a psychiatrist tomorrow. I recently WD from opiates and have been drinking nearly round the clock since then. I can't check myself into a clinic but I have some pretty serious Withdraws when I stop drinking...so what would you recommend as the best cocktail to help ease the pains of WD?

If you can get hold of benzos, you could start tapering with them. The ones with longer half-lives (like valium) are usually best for this.

^Exactly. Some doctors prescribe chlordiazepoxide (Librium) or clonazepam (Klonopin) for alcohol withdrawal, they are long-acting benzos just like diazepam is.

If you think you're experiencing DT, you really need medical supervision. DT is lethal in around 10% of people even with medical supervision. I'd say it is more likely that you just have alcohol withdrawal symptoms, but this is nothing to play around with regardless.

+1!

Alcohol withdrawal is no joke, they can and do kill people. Do not stop drinking abruptly, get yourself to a doctor and onto a supervised detox. Long acting benzos are used but this is not something to attempt on your own.

yea, no joke. alcohol WD will kill you if its severe enough. When i was in rehab they usually would give the ppl coming off booze librium in the day time and then something to help them sleep at night.

i swear, if alcohol had been invented in the past 100 years, it would be illegal these days just like heroin and MDMA.

^^
Prohibition in the united states was lifted in 1933 that's less than a hundred years ago. So in the past hundred years it has been illegal although alcohol has been consumed even back Since the ancient sumerians 4000 B.C. Anyway to awnser the question I would suggest minimal use as a PRN if even needed with a benzodiazepine. Specifically a longer acting one such as klonopin, or diazepam.

Diazepam, Neurontin (gabapentin), or Lyrica (pregabalin).

*Diazepam is just my suggested long-acting benzodiazepine. Never had librium, but runner up: low-dosage clonazepam.

A long acting benzo, quite usually a dose that would otherwise be quite high, is often employed to manage alcohol DT's. The most common are probably Librium (chlordiazepoxide) and Valium (diazepam). Phenobarbital is also employed at times instead of a benzodiazepine, but the method of DT management and alcohol detox varies from doctor to doctor.

Thanks everyone: I was scribed metroprolol, and klonopin and I'll take some valium as well. I know I shouldn't do this without supervision but I am not in a place where that is possible. Thanks again for all the advice.

I came off th booze last year they would have used librium but I was already on Diaz that was in the UK

Not a problem :)

I am going to close this now as you have a plan - I would still be much happier if you did under medical supervision and please remember that DTs can be fatal so have a low threshold for getting yourself checked out.

Good luck <3
