Best approach to tapering nicotine?

I'm planning on starting to do a nicotine taper to try and quit smoking. I keep reading conflicting information and it's all a bit confusing. What sort of taper would you guys recommend? I smoke 10 cigarettes a day, so I'm not a heavy smoker. I'm not sure how fast to do the taper - I've seen about four different docs over the years and each has recommended different things.

Any advice? If all else fails I'm thinking of investing in some e-cigarettes and just moving from the strong cartridges to the weak ones and eventually to ones that don't contain any nicotine at all. It would be great if I could do this blindly (i.e. someone else is in charge of when the dose is reduced without me knowing to avoid psychological dependence getting in the way of my rational thinking).

Cheers, AE.

I usually wear a patch for a few days.. I know thats not what the instructions say but I find once I get past the first couple of days without smoking then Ive broken the habit somewhat.. Then I start to enjoy the way my lungs feel.. All the precious oxygen in my blood.. The colour coming back in my cheeks.. loosing thatyellow look that heavy smokers often have. I also enjoy smelling lovely.

I gave up a few weeks ago and it feels lovely !! Plus Ive got a few quid in me pocket :)

Allan Carr Easy Way To Stop Smoking is a good book.. Youll get it on amazon for a few quid I reckon..
Best of Luck.. Am sure youll slay that demon NicOteen :)

Apparantly the patch works best,

because you are basically trying to avoid nicotine withdrawal symtpoms right
Scientific study shows that a nicotine patch is slow releasing,
so it is the better option, as it means less withdrawal feelings and its kind of a way of easing off.

Not like when you smoke a cig,
I think it takes 7 seconds for the nicotine to reach the brain?
So thats why you smoke more and more often to avoid the withdrawal symptoms of nicotine.

Good luck!

you dont light them you silly billy. You swallow them! duh! ( hard to chew though )

OP. when you feel like smoking take some lovely clean, fresh breaths instead.. If you feel
you need a cig as a reward.. reward your lungs instead with pure air.

MMmmm Oxygen.
