Hello fellow bluelighters I just wanted to ask what are the best/most effective antidepressants that don't have stimulant effects whatsoever? Thank you very much my friends!!!!

There's a wide range, but the most common, give or take a few, are:

Amitriptyline
Citalopram
Escitalopram
Fluoxetine
Fluvoxamine
Paroxetine
Sertraline
Venlafaxine

I think with anti depressants you'll find that everyone reacts to them differently. Im assuming you need some anxiety relief from your username, and what might work for some might not work for you and vice versa. You'll probably be better off working with a doctor or mental health professional to find something specifically for you. I've tried several in the past but to no avail unfortunately :(

Yea 88dood88 it's rough bro. Anxiety can be pretty debilitating but I believe someday my anxiety will be a lot better and I believe the same for you. God didn't plan for us to be anxious our whole lives. Keep your head up man!

No worries. It's completely subjective but for what it counts, Venlafaxine(Effexor) worked wonders for my anxiety.

Honestly, St. Johns Wort is the best selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor which is even OTC (over the counter). It's cheap, it works, and you don't need a script. This is all if you're looking for a natural, non-stimulating SSRI.

I imagine you mean traditional antidepressants likely to be prescribed by most psychiatrists. The ADs I've personally been prescribed that were minimally anxiogenic were mirtazepine and zoloft (after the initial two weeks). Lexapro didn't make me very anxious (didn't do much of anything actually). I've never taken paxil, but I've heard from many people that it's the best SSRI for anxiety. Also most studies that indicate this were funded by the pharmaceutical company...

I know many people have had success with Abilify, but please be aware of the high possibility of akathesia and discuss this with your doctor before starting any antipsychotic. It is a very disturbing type of physical anxiety that many people find very distressing. I don't want to scare you away from a potentially useful med. Akathesia can be treated with other drugs like benzodiazepines or sometimes antihistamines but must be a consideration for anyone with elevated anxiety. I refused this medication for this reason.

Careful, my wife switched from Effexor to Cymbalta because of the nasty side effects. Good luck mate.

Effexor was pretty bad for me. Made me incredibly anxious and about a month into it I was having some of the worst suicidal thoughts that I ever had. Definitely had to stop it.

I hope so man, thanks for the encouragement. Anxiety really is a bitch, I hope both of us can overcome it one day

Mirtazapine (Remeron) is a great choice for anxiety-related depression, especially with sleep issues. At a dose of 7.5mg it works as a powerful anti-anxiety agent along with being hypnotic, with mild anti-depressive effects. At 15mg, it works as a powerful anti-anxiety agent, along with hypnotic properties, and moderate anti-depressive effects.

It is not and SSRI, SNRI, or SNDRI, and has great effects on anxiety at 7.5-15mg, and great effects on depression at 15-30mg.

I have tried, wellbutrin, zoloft, prozac, effexor, celexa, vibryd (newer one), so i have tried quiet a few and honestly none of them worked for me.

But if i had to try one again i would try mirtazapine (remeron) as the person above mentioned, because not only do i hear its more effective as a depression medication but also makes you more tired and less stimulated which your looking for. I never felt stimulated from any anti-depressants or really much changes at all EXCEPT severe sexual problems which is why i hate most anti-depressants..

Escitalopram has worked, amazing for me. I have been in many but by far
Escitalopram has made me happier and helped with ptsd flashbacks.
Good luck :-)
