I currently take 100MG Zoloft a day. It use to work very well for me and now it really doesn't help much. What are the best anti-depressants on the market today?

I've taken around 10 diff Anti_D's and the only one I could even tell anything with was one and I think that was ambien, but i cant remember. Felt like speed, almost,my scalp was tingly and made my face tense up. Hated it at first, then it got better, but then I couldnt get it up ,so I quit taking it. I was always using,so maybe that covered it up?

Ambien is a sleeping pill

Everyone knows that all drugs affect different people differently, but that goes double(maybe even triple) for Antidepressants. Their effects work on such complex brain functions that there's really no way to say one is better than the other objectively. One's best bet is to give an antidepressant a try for a few months to see how it works and then switch to another until they find one or a combination of more than one that works for them.

If zoloft helped you then serotonin is probably what would help most, with a tiny bit of dopamine and sigma receptor stimulation. Have you tried 5-HTP, or l-tryptophan w/ vitamin B-complex supplements? I would avoid AD's, as they will only make your problem worse after discontinuation.

^ He'll probably have to eventually, unless he dies before his nervous system gets burnt out, and SSRI's don't just screw up your 5-HT system.

Yea I quit before and didnt take nothing and I did feel way worst- Severe Depression. So I guess is working a little right now because I dont feel that way no more. But zoloft used to make me feel way better.

Talk to your doctor, they're really the only person who can advise you on this (and even then, let's be honest, it's often hit and miss even for GPs. We just don't understand depression well enough, yet.)

But as someone said, different people react really differently to different anti-depressants, so even if paxil, say, was wonderful for me, there's no guarantee it would be helpful for you.

They tried putting me on every thing imaginable from tons of ssris and snris and the lot. Then one of the psychiatrists actually had a thought that maybe I wasnt suffering from depression. They put me on Lamictal for bipolar disorder, and woalah! I was fixed haha

^ i should elaberate on this. i smoke a small amount of high grade heb eac night alone. i find after smokign daily for a long time for some reason smokign with other people makes me kidna awark and panicky. alone i can relax and reflect. it kinda develops a constant glow effect withci relives my depression. and i have been diagnosed with it and tried alot of other meds. i HATED all the pharmecueticals. especialyl ssri's and buprion (wellbutrin). i kinda liked amphetamines and benzodiazopienes but they jsut got me high and didnt actually help my depression especiallyy the amphetamine comedown.

I've never seen any evidence of SSRIs doing any damage to the 5-HT or nervous system.

SSRIs are just so hit or miss because everyone's chemistry is different. I was lucky and got the right med the first time (Celexa-- which works out since my primary symptom is anxiety and not depression, which is secondary), but it's not unusual to have to adjust meds and dosage levels to find the sweet spot.

i have been on almost everything from SSRI's to tricyclic anti-depressants. the best thing is WELBUTRION. it also gives you a nice little speedy buzz for the first few months, kinda like a lot of caffeine without the giters and such. kinda like a trammadol speedy feeling
