Exactly, so people don't need to be able to walk into a store and buy an AR-15. There's no reason military weapons should be in the hands of citizens.

We have the most tyrannical government I can think of, but noone will rise up with their "patriotism, and their assault rifles" to do anything about it.
I tend to agree with this, but if the police are allowed to have them, shouldn't everyone else? I worry about how many hateful, superstitious people are able to get automatic weapons legally. But I think I worry more about the government and their right-hand being armed to the teeth while the common person is left to fend for themselves. We can and should dream of a world without guns, but lets not be too hasty disarming ourselves while everyone else does the exact opposite...
It's a catch 22. Most police departments weren't armed like that years ago. I remember watching a documentary a decade ago about some bank robbery where the robbers were in full body/head armor and armed with assault rifles. The police had to stay back for several hours and wait for reinforcements and rifles from the next town over because they didn't have the kind of firepower to match the robbers. They just had pistols and shotguns. It's exactly situations like that that make them think they need assault rifles.
But you're right, we definitely need to demilitarize our police forces. Bernie of course says that at every rally. I think banning citizens from owning military weapons like that would go a long way towards the argument that cops don't need that kind of equipment anymore.
Criminals will always have access to whatever firepower they need. If the population is unarmed they are going to be helpless should real trouble arise. If the govt has guns then the citizens should. Unless you want to protect yourself with rocks and slingshots.
That's terrible logic Droppers. Maybe you should look into the biographies of all the high-profile mass shooters over the past year or two. None of them were "criminals." They were just everyday people who snapped.
What, you think everyone has connections to black market weapons dealers? You think I know a guy that knows a guy that would be selling illegal assault rifles if I one day decided to go on a shooting spree? No. And the vast majority of people in America don't either. And even if they found one, inquiring around about, searching for, and finally obtaining an illegal assault rifle from the black market gives law enforcement many more opportunities to catch someone trying to do that than walking into Gander Mountain and buying one does.
Nobody is suggesting not allowing citizens to to own guns. The second amendment gives us the right to own guns. What it doesn't do is give us the right to own military-grade weapons created with the sole purpose of killing human beings.
If you think this guy could have walked into a crowded club with just handguns and killed 50 people while injuring 53 more before getting taken out by either the police or the victims there's no point in continuing this conversation.
Idk man I guess I own multiple Ar15s and have a glock 40 cal with a 30 round mag. Imma get two of those glocks to conceal and load up on mags everytime. I even have a buddy that has one of these which is ridiculous but easy enough to make yourself

...these abuses are why the 14th amendment needs to be revisited.
absolutely right, gm. but republicans and the gun lobby have to keep repeating this lie to keep the myth alive.Nobody is suggesting not allowing citizens to to own guns.
The second amendments sole purpose is about defending against other humans.

Exactly, the 2A has nothing to do with hunting. It is there to keep the government in check and prevent tyranny
