Bernie Sanders

FMD, Droppers must be salivating at all the bites he is getting here. Unfortunately, it makes the thread almost impossible to follow because the illogical rants of a fucking idiot do nothing but distract from interesting discussion.

Oh, but its sooooo FUN!

Back to the distinguished gentleman from Vermont, he was in my hometown last night. It was awesome. So many people...I'm convinced that if he loses the nomination it'll be because of DNC corruption.

You're right - people in the states who are having a tough time making ends meet now may be forgiven for thinking "it can't get much worse".
But history - even in the last century - has proven countless times that this is false.
Things can get a hell of a lof worse that the social and economic problems in the USA at the moment. Unfortunately the general public often have short memories (or have learned nothing from history) and are complacent about how important - on so many levels - good governance is.
I'm more concerned about Trump's absolute lack of experience as a public servant, than i am his stupid inflammatory rhetoric or his bigotry.
If anyone in the Presidential race at this stage has what it takes to nose-dive the country and its economy (taking much of the world economy with it) straight into the ground, it's Trump.
Nobody else comes close to competing with him as a political disaster waiting to happen.
As much as i don't want to see this happen, it is very hard to envisage a man of his ego, vanity and absense of integrity being able to lead the United States - even as a puppet-like figurehead leader smoothly through a term in office.

Regardless of his politics, he seems so obviously ill-equipped for the job.

But he ran a successful reality show, he'll just yell "you're fired" at world leaders and they'll fold beneath his strong forceful gaze.

Love the guy, Hillaries fucked it up so bad I will never vote for her now despite Trump. She's opened a bunch of offices in California but tells people she's already won and not to worry. Such bullshit, no humility or tact it's almost like the DNC wants to hand Trump the nomination all for Hillaries ego.

I worry about Bernie and the Clintons enemies list, they're famous for blacklisting people. It's the reason Elizabeth Warren never endorsed Bernie. The logical thing to do would be to make him part of the administration like Obama did with Clinton so as not to alienate his base but I don't see that happening if she wins.

Yes, hillary has that aura of entitlement. As if, after all the shit she's been through with bill and his....cigars, it would be nothing but pure, grave injustice of realy titanic proportions, no realy epic, like penis of donald trump-size epic proportions, if she wouldn't get the U.S. presidency now.

Bernie has been making me very proud lately. As the pressure from the Democratic Party intensifies for him to drop out and endorse Hillary to "unite the party" I was worried he might cave. He's done the exact opposite, fighting back against the attacks by the DNC and the party. On Saturday he came out in support of Tim Canova, the guy running to usurp DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Shultz. Anyone following this primary closely knows that DWS has done everything she can to rig this primary for Hillary. She's the fucking devil and needs to go.

It's a smaller congressional race in Florida so they obviously don't raise hundreds or even tens of thousands of dollars like presidential candidates do, but after Bernie endorsed him and sent out an email letting people donate with half the money going to Bernie and half going to Tim, Canova's campaign announced they raised over $250,000 the next day. That's after raising just $1,000,000 over the course of the entire race so far, so that's awesome. Fuck Hillary and fuck Debbie Wasserman Shultz.

Bernie sanders has some great ideas bardo nobody say he doesn't, but he is a bit of a kook like Ron only to the left rather than the right. He wants to massively grow government and tax heavily at the expense of freedom, liberty, and individuality. Collectivism is a dangerous thing as per history. I love all these people relating trump to hitler just bc he is against illegal immigration. Guess what guys most people are, including the bulk of legal immigrants. Also our system is not set up for a dictatorship it couldn't even happen with a record number of executive orders. The presidency is more of a place holding position. It is why we have our own royal families per the bushes and the clintons for example. Really out of all the great people in this country Hilary is the best you got? Really? What bc the economy happened to be good during the Clinton years and she has a vagina. At the end of the day I'd take Bernie all day over her I hope he runs third party :)

freedom, liberty, and individuality.
Yawn.
Sanders will oppress "individuality"? I'd ask you to explain, but it's a stupid question - so the inevitably stupid answer doesnt interest me

Aside from the cartoonish buzzwords, it's more complicated than simply growing government on a large scale. A proposed budget would show this. Shrinking certain areas of government while shifting the funds elsewhere isn't really growth, it's redistribution of both wealth and power. Also who is he taxing? Which demographic bears the brunt of his "heavy taxation". Is it you and me, not quite. Is requiring General Electric to actually pay something higher than a nickle in corporate tax a good idea or a bad one?

Collectivism is a dangerous thing as per history.

So is individualism. You still haven't answered my questions about Puerto Rico.

At the end of the day I'd take Bernie all day over her I hope he runs third party :)

He says he won't, but with the nuclear option being thrown around about Sanders supporters voting for Trump if Hilary takes the nomination, it might be healthy for him to run a third party candidacy, Hell, he could even run as an independent again.

As for Trump, it's kind of a hands on lesson to learn. We learned that lesson with the Tea Party (now the bulk of the least popular governors. Anyone seen Palin lately? I'm quite concerned for her mental health tbh), you can tell someone the stove is hot so many times before you just have to let them touch it. Maybe that's what needs to happen with Trump. A Trump presidency would introduce shock economics and sway people as far from such a figure in the future.

As an aside, I'm sick of the cult of personality we celebrate every election cycle. If only people could get behind ideas rather than the charm of public figures. This applies to both sides of the spectrum.

Bardeaux: This really stuck out for me. One of the biggest problems with american politics is we have almost a smoke screen effect over the real issues, while people partake in petty partisan squabbling. I think there needs to be a class in highschool that is a mandatory credit that teaches students about which policies are in the works, how said policies will effect them in the future, and how to take a more active role in local, state, and federal politics. Disinformation and lack of understanding is the bread and butter of the majority of the politicians we have now. It is time to teach our children how to cut through the miasma of this disinformation and replace corruption, bureaucracy, and blatant pandering with intellectual discourse.
Droppersneck: Bernie is not trying to make the government bigger. What he is trying to do is reevaluate how our government (which is extremely bloated, costly, and inefficient) works. He is focusing on issues that will drastically improve peoples lives across the board. If we look at how the wealthy, and corporations pay taxes (or avoid paying them) we might be able to come up with a few reforms that will allow our budget to fix/fund most of our social programs and help pay our creditors down a bit. In all honesty and fairness I truly believe in states rights, but we need the federal government to lead the way into a brighter future. Think about how dim everyone but the most wealthy were effected by trickle down economics. This was a massive reform which did nothing to help the majority of the people. Bernie is going to do the opposite of that and ensure that everyone that lives and does business in the United States will pull their fair share. I know it will be difficult with such an obstructionist house and senate, but I am sure he is willing to reach across the aisle and use true compromise. I, however, do not see the megalomaniac that is Trump working with anyone that has differing views to his own, which will make our national security even worse in this country due to loosing allies, and trade agreements.

Corporations pay enough in taxes and that is why they are leaving in droves. I bet even ge could operate from like Vietnam lol. Reminds me of the tpp yet another world jobs program. Bernie isn't going to get you free everything by fleecing the rich they have more influence and aready carry the majority of the tax burden. Besides at some point you run out of other people's money and jfc we can't afford more corps to leave. A president is limited in what they can do and like it or not Bernie is beholden to higher interests like everyone else. The man lives in a bubble never being in the private sector. After working in the public sector I could see how one could become delusional though tbf

Want to be a true patriot? Survive on $5 per week.

Maybe the corporations will come back. Point being, we're never going to compete with developing nations by lowering wage or taxes. Here's a neat little graph of American tariffs over the centuries:

Notice the drastic drop in the 1950s? This is because corporations made up the majority of our federal budget and they were no longer needed. With tariffs at a near record low, with effectivr corporate tax at a record low despite record high profits, with taxes on wealthy individuals lower than they've been in 70 years what logical reason is there to continue this bombardment of free trade agreements? The only answer I can come up with is greed. I think Sanders is very much playing an FDR role here, he can be elected and appease the dozens of millions struggling, or those dozens of millions can appease themselves. Is there any basis behind what you say?

Governments do not create anything, they never have.

You need to study your history. In the New Deal, FDR used the government as "Employer of Last Resort" and we got things like the WPA (Works Progress Administration) and other government employers which soaked up hundreds of thousands of unemployed individuals and trained them and when the program was over there was a huge pool of trained workers left over for industry to use.

Also, lower down you mentioned corporations are being taxed too much. We have one of the lowest corporate tax rates in the whole world. It's not because of high taxes that they flee - its pure greed. They'd rather pay 50 cents a day to their workers than $7.50/hour. That, my friend, is pure greed. They only care about their bottom line. Have you seen the documentary The Corporation? Probably not. Watch it if you're willing to open yourself up to a different view.

For instance, companies like GE use innovative (and legal) methods to offshore most of their profits, effectively paying less % of their income in federal tax than you or I. I'll say it again - GE pays less in Federal tax in relation to their income than we do.

They are not fleeing from being overtaxed. They're fleeing due to their wicked avarice.

Edit: Making statements like "Governments do not create anything, they never have" simply serve to bare your ignorance to the whole world. Half the things you take for granted in your daily life were created by government. Your problem is that you've been trained by media to see the government as your enemy and private industry as your pal. Government is supposed to be an institution we all institute together to protect us and increase our quality of life. This is becoming harder as REGULATORY CAPTURE increases (look it up). There is a revolving door of private industry bigwigs moving into the public sector (government) and back into private industry. They do this to parasitize on our public government, which is supposed to be composed of normal public servant citizens, and turn it into a rubber stamp for big money interests. Often, industry lobbyists simply draft their own legislative bills and hand it to the senators and congressmen they have in their pockets and these bills get passed with nary a debate on the Senate floor. Your enemy is big money, not government. Maybe one day you will be able to understand this. And let me tell you who this is coming from - I am what is called an anarcho-socialist. This is the purest form of libertarianism. I'm no great friend of governments. But I read books (goddamn book-reading) and garner knowledge, while you get your information spoon-fed to you by Fox News.

I saw a video on the young turks where they brought a statistic that claimed that some decades ago, corporations shouldered about a third or so of the national tax income of the USA. nowadays it's more like 10 percent. guess who had to take on the difference? ;)

Hmmmmmm...was it the 0.1%? Did I get it right? Oh, shit. It was the lower and middle classes! People like me, you, and...Droppers!

Edit: And don't forget, this is talking about pure percentage. If you account for inflation and the actual dollar amounts, the deficit becomes really absurd.
