Benzphetamine is metabolized by the human body into amphetamine and methamphetamine, making it one of a number of drugs to undergo in vivo conversion to a substance of higher addiction and abuse potential. Benzphetamine itself does not have as high abuse potential as its metabolites (Schedule III) because of the time necessary for the liver to metabolize it into amphetamine and methamphetamine, regardless of route of administration.

If metabolization could be increased could this yield a higher amount methamp metabolite. I randomly came across reading about this drug reading the FDA's new and generic drug approvals and I saw

Seemed interesting to see if theres a way to get rx'd it or something and try to get it to give a methamp buzz.
 
1. find enzyme that has amphet/methamphet as substrate
2. find enzyme inducer
3. use both to your advantage
4. rx meth/amphet buzz
5. ??? profit
 
Why are they not using this in medicine?

A less abusable substance which effectively does the same thing.

Why can't it? If I remember correctly, its metabolic conversion to methamphetamine is effected by CYP3A4, and there are plenty of (reasonably) safe CYP3A4 inducers around.

Anyway, benzphetamine is perfectly recreational, also in absence of any metabolic tweaking. It's not extensively researched, but I belive it is rapidly and extensively metabolised, and methamphetamine is the major metabolite. I've played with benzphetamine quite a bit, once had a few bottles of those pink 50 mg Didrex pills, and I enjoyed them a lot. Weaker than plain meth by the milligramme, of course, but very similar in effect. A clean, mellow stimulant with a fairly long duration.
 
long time user of uppers. got benzphetamine hydrochloride from doc. they aren't doing it for me. but is it bc of route of administration? I occasionally iv, mostly smk though

you'd be getting (meth)amphetamine out of it much quicker and more efficiently if you'd just take them orally.
