Hi All,
I have been on opiates and other drugs including benzos for chronic pain for 30 years. I am coming off benzos at the moment. I switched to diazepam and I am tapering by about 2mg per week and have reduced from 20mg / day to 10 mg/day. Is there a section with tips and advice for coming off them please?. I came off reasonably easily years ago after being on them for 6 months. This time is more like over 12 years and when I tried reducing last year I failed as I was spasamming and jerking and getting very little sleep when I reduced to zero. I withdrew much faster last time. I want to get off them as they seem to be making me more anxious than I was when I was without them. I was originally prescribed them for restless leg syndrome. My GP at the time, and myself did not know about dopamine agonists and Madopar. I currently use the latter.

Eventually benzos just stop working, or you have to keep upping your dose. It's not sustainable long term, at least that's what i've convinced myself of since my Dr. is forcing me off valium. I'm at 5mg per day, down from 30mg, which was down from 4mg klonopin/day. Before that I abused benzos heavily, blacking out for weeks all the time. Best place i've found for getting off benzos and understanding benzo dependency is the ashton manual: http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/

there are plenty of threads on quitting/tapering benzos, just use the search function. Generally, benzo questions end up in Other Drugs. There are many recovering benzo users around with lots of information, welcome to BL :D and good luck with your benzo taper.

Indeed there is. I'm going to direct you to check out Other Drugs, its our intermediate-level harm reduction and questions forum for various drugs, including withdrawaling from them (and benzos is included). I would browse through there, do some searching, and see if there's something that can help you. Withdrawaling from benzos is serious and should be taken seriously. Don't be afraid to ask for help (looks like you're not ;)), and Other Drugs is the place to start.

Welcome to Bluelight Nimshie29!!

We're glad to have you here :)

NeighborhoodThreat linked some great threads that will have the information you're looking for :)

getting off benzos after that long is very dangerous even tapering...remember that and take alot of vitamins double doses

What my advice is; slow down your taper. Instead of decreasing by 2mg per week, try 1mg decrease, or 0.5mg decrease. You can buy a pill cutter to assist in this process. :)

I honestly wish you the best! Welcome to Bluelight, and I hope that all goes well for you.

I would also look into the link in my signature called OD Directory, look for a thread called Community Projects - Tapering Plans. This will be a great tool you can use as well. :)
