I know this isnt the right spot, but it wont let me put in the other drugs section, so feel free to move! But anyways, had my first day as a waiter at a resturant today and boy was i overwhelmed with everything, lots of stuff to remember and such a fast pace job. Whats your opinion on taking a low dose xanax, like 1mg, for my really bad nerves (i get nervous with people to, so probably waiter isnt the best job for me, but whatever) Or will this hurt my ability to work most efficiently and possibly make me not remember alot of things that im still being taught? (Still in training)

I find it really wrong to advise taking drugs in a work place. I mean if you need drugs to function to do a job you don't even feel comfortable doing, then like you say perhaps this isn't the career for you.

Can you not just suck it up and do it without relying in drugs to get you through the day?

If your suffering from anxiety, instead if self medicating. Why don't you actually see a doctor and get the right medication prescribed to help you over come this social anxiety.

Face the problem instead of masking it with self medication. You're not a doctor.

Moved from MED to OD.

As for my advice, first off, 1mg is not a low dose. Try a quarter of a milligram if you must but be really careful, benzo addiction is no joke and it can happen without you even realizing it.

I concur about seeking medical advice but I'm not too fond of their answers either and the doc may shove a benzo your way anyway so...

Dude it was your first day at a new job, it's quite normal to be nervous... I'd advice to wait until you've worked there a bit longer before deciding that you need drugs to be able to do the job. If say, after a week or so, you still feel really nervous you could maybe take a benzo or so to calm you down. It'd be a bit idea to this every time you had to work though... And as magickalkat said, 1mg is not a low dose, it'll cause notable impairment. Therapeutic use starts at 0.25mg doses, start there and see if that is enough :).

lmfao, a waiter isn't a career goal (no offense OP), it isn't that serious of a job..

I feel you though dilly, try .5mg. I have serious social anxiety so I would likely NEED a low-dose benzo for waiting tables.

Just make sure to pay close attention to customer's orders, and do everything your manager tells ya.

as with any benzo, just be careful to not take em too long, thats one thing u DONT wanna get hooked on.

it took me a couple months to adjust to the fast paced hospitality environment when i started work as a kitchenhand

its a hump you just have to get over, and you will grow a lot as a person just by soldiering on and overcoming those fears.

if everyone just popped a benzo when they were anxious about something, life would be pretty dull

I was a waiter/bartender for years… Benzos will probably make you forgetful. You know how we have to keep multiple actions to do in our heads in consecutive order?
Example:
Drop check, drop food on table # ( ), make change, pick up food, drinks waiting at bar, taking orders with head counts, new table up, new table down. and on and on and on. A benzo probably will not be a good idea.

There are beta blockers which keep the physical sx of anxiety down, but?
I would just work through it, it takes time to get the hang of the ins and outs of a particular restaurant..

Also, there are studies that memory recall under the influence of a particular drug is not recalled without taking the same drug again. If you learned on a benzo, you might not remember the next shift what what you learned etc. :)

If the OP is being overwhelmed while waiting tables in my experience, the anxiety will effect performance and concentration much more negatively than taking a low dose benzo. say taking .5mg Klonapin should make things a lot less hectic/frantic.
Being relaxed and not over thinking everything should make the first few weeks go by smoothly. The first few days on the job are important. Coming off as nervous, sweaty or awkward isn't the first impression you want to make, especially being a server. I'd take a therapeutic doses of whichever benzo of choice until your comfortable with your coworkers and the environment you work in. Though i'd say no more than your first two weeks.

TAke pregabalin instead. Will relax and wont affect your funtion or make you sleepy. In fact gives you speedy energy which could help with waiting tables. When I take it I tend to clean for the first few hours if I dont have anything else to do as its damn near impossble to sit around.

(not entirely repeating what has already been posted itt)

From a HR perspective it is not a good idea.

You didn't state what sort of experience you have concerning benzos. If you haven't used them before, starting with 1mg Xanax is a terrible idea.

If you're gonna use one try a different benzo, or start at .5mg(or less) Xanax and not 1mg.

If you have no benzo tolerance, I wouldn't suggest taking any at work. Back when I was benzo naive, just .25 of ativan would have me sleeping for a few hours. Now, even after a few months off, it'd still probably take me 2-4mg to feel anything (stupid permatolerance).

Also, as others have said, taking benzos at work is a terrible idea. Say you work 5 days a week, that's 5 days of you taking a benzo. I find that taking anymore than twice a week can lead to serious problems. I've had terrible withdrawals after using just 5 days in a row. Trust me benzo withdrawal is not something you want to go through. I always thought opiate withdrawal was hell on earth, but I'd take my bun a day heroin habit withdrawal over a 4mg per day xanax withdrawal any day. It just lasts forever, and is so miserable. Don't take Benzo's at work!

If you're having a hard time keeping up witht he fast pace of your job and remembering everything, a benzo is not going to make things better. Quite the opposite. You wouldn't have a drink if you feel too mentally sluggish and forgetful to do something well, would you? So why would you think taking a benzo is a good idea?

Trust THAT. I'm hooked on klons and its seriously the hardest kick im enduring.
If you're gonna take xanax at work please dont make a habit out of it and 1MG is a bit much if you dont have a high tolerance . .25 on an empty stomach could do you plenty of good without having a major impact on fatigue or memory/motor functions . You don't wanna be wabbling around the place forgetting orders

I take xanax some days at work when I am feeling particularly stressed out or paranoid. I find it to help immensely but can make me forgetful, maybe a little slower and apathetic, but I can function. Sure can make the day go by as well making me feel a lot more comfortable and social. Just be careful not to overdue it!

Taking BZDs at work is an excellent way to develop a rampaging benzo addiction.

taking anything to get by at work is the number 1 way to help you spiral super quick. everyone starts out for fun. then u need it for work, or it makes u work "bettter"

poof, all money and off time dedicaded to obtaining your "dope"
