Benzos - anterograde amnesia

Hi,

I am far from new using benzos. I've tried a good proportion of the popular ones (Xanax, Valium, Clonazepam, Lorazepam, Temazepam) on various occasions, and various doses - ranging to very high.

The thing I am wondering is, in your experience, which benzo gives the least anterograde amnesia (unable to form new memories). I found that high-dose clonazepam rendered me memory-less for 3 days (not blackout for3 days). I'm guessing it's the one with the shortest half life (probably Xanax at a guess).

What do you guys think? amnesia + university != good. I can't remember (ironically) how Xanax, Valium, Loraz or Temaz were for amnesia.

I like to relax/zone out on high dose benzos occasionally but hate the lasting effect for days.

Any thoughts?

It's my thought that if you're only looking to relax, it's not the given benzo, but rather the dose that is your issue. In other words, less would be more.

My bad, I want to be completely and utterly high. Out of it :P Just without the retrograde amnesia. Or less of it. Any anecdotal experiences of which drug gave you less amnesia das after even at a high dose?

I have been a heavy user of various Benzos over the past few years and all seem to cause serious amnesia in high doses.

Ah, I expected as much.

Did any particular benzo seem to induce more amnesia for you?

Tbh the doses i was taking made it almost impossible to differentiate between Benzos, hence the reason i found all Benzos to be equally Amnestic.

Maybe someone who takes Benzos in more sensible doses may be able to offer some insight.

The 2 Benzos that i found the most useless (Recreationally) were Lorazepam and Clonazepam.

Hey man I don't think your going to get what your looking for. Benzo's cause anterograde amnesia, it's just part of their pharmacology. Especially in higher doses you are guaranteed memory impairment.

to be honest, the benzo with the least amnesia i have experienced is bromazepam. of course if you abuse the hell out of it and take doses of say 18mg+ you'll experience the amnesia big time. at civilized doses, 6-12mg i noticed barely any.

I have tried to black out on benzos so many times and it never works. I have no tolerance whatsoever but i can take upto 6mg and still function well while remembering everything. The only time i blacked out or memory became hazy was from mixing with alcohol. Maybe you've been doing them for too long.

I find the following benzos particularly amnesic: flunitrazepam, nitrazepam, midazolam, alprazolam, triazolam, phenazepam.
The following produced relatively little amnesia even at somewhat higher equivalent doses: clonazepam, lormetazepam, bromazepam, pyrazolam, chlordiazepoxide, oxazepam.

That's very helpful, thanks Psychonauticunt (what a mouthful your name is. No pun intended!)

@lifeisflyingaway - why would you want to fully black out? And what did you take 6mg of?

When I took about 8-10mg of Clonazepam, I blacked out. 6-8mg of Xanax I blacked out. etc. the times I took that much, were because I was already so high I forgot how much I had taken, or my inhibitions and judgement were so low that it seemed a 'great' idea.

I wanted to black out because i thought it was a way to get real fucked up because most people who i knew that would black especially from alcohol would make it seem like it was so amazing even though i have no idea why. Either way, even with no tolerance to alcohol i had upto 15 shots which is a lot for a small person like me and a lot in general, but i couldn't get myself to black out it's so strange i had alcohol poisoning though. I guess it's a good thing that i don't ever black out, i'm sure i would be if i took 12mg xanax but that is way more than normal for someone with no tolerance. I took 20mg of ativan to get myself sent to the hospital once and still didn't black out and didn't have no tolerance than either.

Blacking out can not be fun because you dont remember anything

well i know that now, but a lot of people don't have a problem blacking out and many don't express any remorse over it and do the same thing even though they know it will happen again. well atleast the people i was around. I blacked out a few times but it was from shrooms (never expected to black out on shrooms) and once on a combo of a benzo alcohol opiate and meth. The first blackout ended up with me going to drive and out run the cops that were chasing me from running red lights and driving so fast, and than crashed into 2 parked cars in a neighborhood and fell asleep on the airbag, obviously because of this legal troubles came. The second time when i came back from the black out i found out i puked blood for hours after going to a room with this guy. A lot of people black out on alcohol even ones who aren't alcoholics, i'm glad i don't for me it's scary.

^ A sound reminder for anyone thinking of combining anything likely to cause a black out as to why it is a POOR idea.

Glad you've gotten away from it now lifeisflyingaway.

Yeah, blacking out isn't fun. Sometimes the consequences are funny. Often not. I've lost a girlfriend, friendships, wallets, phones etc. from blacking out and acting like a moron

That's my point.

More often than not you end up doing stupid, regrettable things... and even if you did do anything fun you wont remember it.

Since this has spun way off topic into the why blacking out is bad thread, I'm going to go ahead and close it. It's fairly obvious, avoid doing things likely to cause a black out. The end.
