Effexor is terrible!!!! When I was 17 my doctor RX'ed me to that crap, the first time I took it (an hour later) my eyes were all dilated and I felt extremely weird and had the trembles like crazy. I called the doctors office and told him what I was feeling, he said I wouldn;t notice any symptoms for 2-3 weeks. I have 5 pill bottles laying around I will never touch that crappy med again. Zoloft worked wonders for me, but I never seem to stay on my medication. It makes me feel like I need them to be happy so I just stop.

^ He's probably right, I had horrible side effects initially - exactly as you describe, felt like I was coming up off a piperazine pill, dilated pupils, nausea, shakes, feeling weird - horrible. I also couldn't sleep for the first week. By the second week there was a tiny bit of residual nausea and sleep wasn't still perfect, but by the end of the third week they had all gone. I've been on venlafaxine (Effexor) for a good while now and it really suits me, but YMMV..
