Ok, I've been on benzos for the lAst 6+months, daily. My drugs of choice on benzos that I have access to are xanax and Valium.

When taken together, I dose anywhere from 3-6mg xanax and 30-60mg Valium.

when separate, I take 6-10mg of Xanax, OR 90-120mg Valium.

im also on 80mh methadone for my past opiate addiction. I know mixing methadone and benzos is playing with fire, and I know I can easily od and die. But my opiate tolerance is super high 8+ years, which helps me not od.

anyways I went in yesterday to my primary doctor, and told her everything.
She gave me a referral to go to the er room and detox myself there when Im ready.

heres what she RX'd me.

phenobarbital 16.2mg

this med is a barbitute and a schedule 4 drug just like Xanax and Valium. Have any of you guys had this particular barb before? How is it? And how does it compare to benzos?

lexapro 10mg

this med is for depression and anxiety, just like Xanax, but obviously way weaker. Not a scheduled drug, she rxd it to me to stop seizures if I go into mad w/d.

promethazine 25mg

ive had these rxd to me before for hardcore nausea in the mornings. My stomach is starting to get nauseous again but no nearly bad as the first time. She rxd this med to me for my moderate to mild nausea and to help me sleep.

what do you guys think? Would those drugs be good and keep me stable without any benzos?

I think you would be wayyyyy better off doing a slow and gradual taper with either clonazepam or diazepam....

Sounds like a bad idea if you ask me.

Some doctors feel like this quick detox is a simple fix leading to a quick turn around, only to actually ensure extended discomfort and proving further problematic.

You're right man.

The good news is I have a appointment with my psychiatrist tomorrow, ill tell him everything and hopefully he RX's me something better like Ativan or Klonopin.

I havnt used any of the drugs she RX'd me yet, besides the promethazine. Because I don't want them. I want to trade them for something that I know will work better to wean me off benzos. Ativan or Klonopin imo are the best 2 choices for me. They're benzos just like Xanax and valium, and they'll keep me stable as I taper, at least STABLE. If I was the doctor, and I had a patient in my situation and he's 100% getting ready to get off benzos I will absolutely help him taper. I'd RX him Ativan 2mg the first day and tell him this. With the tolerance you have (90-120mg valium) (6-10mg Xanax) Start with...(talking about Ativan)

one 2mg tablet 3 times a day for a month.
next month after
one 2mg tablet 2 times a day
next month after
one 1mg tablet 3 times a day
next month after
one 1mg tablet 2 times a day
next 2 weeks
one .5mg 3 times a day
next 2 weeks
one .5mg 2 times a day
next week
one .5mg once a day for a week

THAT imo sounds like an excellent taper.
Now I know im no doctor, or psychiatrist, but I have been in the drug game for 10 years.

what do you guys think?

I chose Ativan because its a little weaker than Xanax, but more smooth and longer lasting (12-18 hours half life) compared to Xanax (6-11hours)...and way easier to come off of.

I've had Ativan only twice, both times in the ER IV'd. its very relaxing.

Can you get your methadone doctor to help you with this. They could help you taper down by giving you your daily amount of benzos with your daily dose of methadone so you won't be tempted to take more. That's what my suboxone doctor did for me a few years ago.

Methadone and Subs are on a different level.
Methadone is a full agonist (sp?) opiate. Subs are a partial agonist opiate.
Methadone is a Schedule 2 drug, Subs are a schedule 3.
Methadone can't be RX'd by a primary dr. for opiate W/d, Suboxone CAN be RX'd for opiate w/d.
Although, methadone may be RX'd for chonic pain, but very low doses, the 40mg wafers are banned. They only have 5mg and 10mg tabs available for methadone for chronic pain. Suboxone isn't really RX'd for pain much, but in rare occasions I believe they are.

You get the picture....

My methadone Doctor/clinic is a methadone ONLY clinic, they have NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, but methadone. Some Methadone clinics do have other options such as suboxone, but mine doesn't.
I also heard A LOT of methadone clinics don't allow taking benzos AT ALL while on their methadone, not mine.
They completely understand it's the addict inside you that uses the drugs, it's not the real you. I believe that 100%.

But yeah to get to the point, my methadone doctor can do nothing about my benzo issue.

Hey buddy,
i just read your post about the fight you had...thanx God that this Mexican guy helped you, and well done..(for beat the fuckers...:)). I'm glad you're ok, and your nose hasn't break, (don't worry about the eye, you know it's nothing..). So well, about the benzo w/d, i thin that the dr could give you some gabapentin, or better pregabalin, that would help you a lot, but to take them for about 3-4 weeks, not more, cause they both have their own w/d symptoms, (of course nothing like opies or benzos, but they do..). by saying that, i don't mean of course to listen to me and don't follow your dr's treatment..

"I think you would be wayyyyy better off doing a slow and gradual taper with either clonazepam or diazepam...."
Well, i agree with yteek's post, i think that too, anyway..
As for the meds that dr scripted you, lexapro, a ssri as you know,it needs some time to work, maybe 2-4 weeks, dr should have told you, i think..as for phenobarbital, IDK, it's kinda tricky med...:\
In your shoes, i would think as you about the ativan taper, or valium taper..but don't forget it's not only the meds, keep your spirit up, with every way you can, i think it's a big part of the game..

Wish you always the best, from my fuckin heart, and i hope you'll be ok...WTF, it's a 6 months habit, not a lifetime, it will pass, be fuckin strong mate...:)%)

Hey thanks Martinfn!!!
That was a crazy day. I literally was just walking to my car to go home and they just HAD to fight with me? Geez. esp 2 vs 1 pussy shit.

Anyways, I have AMAZING news today. I had my appointment scheduled in march, which is over a couple months, too long!! so I got call yesterday that somebody called out for Friday morning at 8:30am, I def. took the appointment, and actually just got home from it. I met an AMAZING female physiatrist, I told her EVERYTHING, and she wrote everything down. Is going to taper me OFF of my benzos yes!!! Her schedule is BOOKED, like shes REAL busy, and im REALLY lucky I got a call out for today. I told her my story and she RX'd me the following...I got rid of the phenobarbital, I didn't even use it. I told my physiatrist that and she said yeah there are many other meds to taper you off the current drugs im on. She RX'd me-

#240 1mg Klonopin (no refills, scheduled drugs needs an appt. from the same Doctor that RX'd you the med, that's why she gave me a pretty good amount, cuz like I said she's BOOKED, and I wont be able to see her again soon, so she knows whats shes doing) -

This med is to taper me off of valium and Xanax,. She said take 2 tablet 3 times a day for a month. the quanitiy is enough to last me til the next time I see her. (month and a 1/2.)
The month after will be the same but with 1.5mg 3 times a day, then month after that, 1mg 3 times a day, etc. Which sounds PERFECT to me. So I totally agreed and went with it.

#120 25mg Hydroxyzine (with 3 re-fills)-

She RXd me this to help a little more with anxiety and help me sleep better.

Keep in mind, I also went into my primary care dr. the day before, I also have -

#45 Lexapro 10mg (with 3 re-fills)
Which is a SSRI (anti-depressant) with anxiety properties as well.

#120 Promethazine 25mg (with 1 re-fill)
Also to help with nausea, and to help me sleep.

So imo I have plenty of GOOD meds to come off benzos now. I'm sooooooooo happy now.
I finally found a doctor who understands my situation!!!

Thank you so much for the support!!!

The klonopin is working AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I havn't used no valium, or Xanax ever since I got RX'd klonopin.

So now, im not taking anything illegal, all my meds are RX'd to me which is a HUGE relief. Made my family happier, and made myself happier. My RX'd meds include--

Methadone (40mg wafers, 80mg daily, from clinic)

Clonazepam (1mg pills, currently tapering, 6 pills a day for 2 weeks, then 5 1/2 pills the following 2 weeks, etc.)

Hydroxyzine (25mg capsules, 4 a day)

Promethazine (25mg pills, 2-4 pills a day, as needed)

Lexapro (10mg pills, take 4 pills a day) (never used Lexapro yet, Ill save that for after my detox)

Cannabis (Yes, I have my MEDI card which means im smoking it legally! woop! been smoking 8+ years)

I'm currently feeling MUCH better than last week. Knowing ill be stable now makes me feel REALLY good. Yay!!! :)
