Benzos Benzo Cold Turkey

It's strange that the doctor wouldn't give you anything. My boyfriend had a withdrawal seizure from xanax and they didn't hesitate to write him a prescription of ativan with which to taper. Withdrawal seizures can be very dangerous and should be avoided, seriously.
 
doctors arent gonna hand u a script if ur in benzo WD due to abuse/self medicating unless ur seeing an addiction specialist (ex:suboxone doctor, etc..) they are gonna tell u to go to detox hospital, where they will lovingly give u a standard phenobarb dose and make ya suffer after the 72hr seizure window is over...my suboxone doctor on the otherhand, had tapered me off of 4mgx of xanax as i was "abusing it on the street" i only had to go every 7 days to see him and get a taper script, but pay $100 in addition. the proper way to taper is .5 a week decrease...2 doctors gave me scripts to taper (as they are addiction specialists, suboxone treatment) this one doctor said "go to detox, you think i will risk losing my license to practice by giving you a script for a drug you abuse?"......but some doctors actually will tho at the same time, my GP is a benzo advocate, my friend went to him and said "i been taking xanax 3mg a day for my anxiety, my mother has it and doesnt use them, they help however when i try to stop i get real bad symptoms" right away the doc gave him klonopin 2mg AM, 2mg PM
 
Valerian tincture really helps with benzo w/d. Also taking strong epsom salt baths.
 
I definitely agree with RR, too rapid of cessation from benzos can cause PTSD cause the experience is so traumatic. I recently came off 12mg/day clonazepam and it was worst thing ever and I think I have some type of PTSD now from it. Tapering IMHO should be mandatory with benzos. Just my opinion.
 
tapering should be mandatory with the benzo ur taking. alot of places just give u phenobarb so it reduces ur chances of a seizure...and let u suffer the WD symptoms even tho they may feel life threatening, as there not after u get dosed phenobarb for 72 hrs....this is typical in detox's....my suboxone doctors always tapered me off of benzos with either the benzo i was taking or klonopin and would reduce me 0.5mg a week, or 1mg reduction if i was taking xanax 1mg 4x....its only ethical to taper with a benzo, not a stupid ass barbirutrate to act as a seizure blocker..like i said only detox places mostly give u the horrid phenobarb treatment
 
Very true about the PTSD,cold turkey benzo withdrawal was by far the most traumatic experience of my life!
