you need some drug that does not affect REM sleep. most benzos disrupt REM leaving you feeling groggy in the morning(most benzos also have long half-lives so that's also why you are in zombie-mode next day). however, temazepam has been proven not to interfere with REM, and because it's half-life is relatively short, you will feel refreshed and good-to-go in the morning.
even though pregabalin (lyrica) is not a benzo, it is related to them (cousins if you will). from first hand experience, lyrica feels much like alprazolam (xanax) , but less sedative. it is also great for SAD (social anxiety disorder) because for me it made me talk my mouth off. in addition, it does not affect REM sleep like temazepam. the best quality of lyrica is that it is often used to treat opiod and benzo w/d, so you will not get "sick" when or if you make the switch.
i had the luxury of having a lyrica script for over a year, and while i was on it, it worked like a mircale drug. when i was forced to discontinue my usage, i experienced hardly any w/d at all from daily usage of 600mgs per day for 12+months. however, if you abuse lyrica (and even if you don't and follow your doctors prescribed dosage, but to a lesser extent) tolerance rises rather quickly, so you will probably want to only take it 2-4 times a week.
i definitely recommend lyrica, will help improve your sleep quality, is an excellent anxiolytic, and has little to none side effects. but temazepam is on a whole different level :]. but you won't be dissatisfied with either.
