so ive been on klonopin since november. i used them only as needed. like 1 mg twice a weeks for a month. then by december i started using about 2 mgs 4 times a week. then came january and i started using 2 to 3mgs a day everyday to slip. i maybe take a 2day rest sometimes. now how bad is this? i know people who take 15 to 20 mg of xanx or klonopin and have been for years. i dont wanna be a pill addict. im going to talk to my doctor about tapering me off. do i have to go 2 a rehab/detox or can my doctor just taper me off without all that. and should i except bad bad withdrawals from the amount of time ive been on them. im so scared to get off of them. i mean they help me but the sooner i get off the better. im also on zoloft. please dont be cruel or tell me to speak to my doc. as i said i am. i just want some feedback thanks

Well, since you've only been using daily since January, you probably do not have to bad of a habit, but benzo Dependance isn't something you want to take lightly, even if the habit isn't that strong.

If I were you, I would take about a month to taper off them, though it's possible to do it in less. Luckily you're already taking clonazepam, which along with diazepam, is what is commonly used to taper people off of benzodiazepine's. Do not attempt to cold turkey a benzo habit, as it can be potentially life threatening, with benzo's with long half lives (or any drug with a long half life for that matter), it can sometimes take 2-3 days for withdrawal to hit, so just because you've been able to skip dosing for two days does not mean that you are out of the woods.

Good luck on quitting, and it's going to be a lot better dealing with this after only a month of daily usage, than it will be if you wait another month or two.

Trust me, cold turkey is nothing to fuck with when it comes to benzos. I was a daily 8+ mg user of Xanax and whatever other benzos I could get my hands on, on top of that--I'm talking everything here: diazepam, clonazepam, temazepam, nitrazepam, etizolam--until one day the supply just ran out after probably 4-5 months of this.

Never been more miserable in my life, for at least a month I suffered. I wasn't sleeping, I had horrible restless legs, anxiety out the ass--I am still amazed to this day that I never had a seizure. But ever since I went to my doctor (a psychiatrist specializing in addiction psychology luckily enough), I have been on 2mg clonazepam a day and it's enough to get me out of bed in the morning.

I guess the moral of my story here--if there even is one--is that it is possible to survive heavy benzo withdrawal, but damn was I lucky. Go see your doctor if you are at all worried, because I wouldn't wish my withdrawal experience on anyone. That being said, 3mg of clonazepam a day for a month will likely only take a month or a month and a half (absolute maximum), depends on each individual's brain I guess, before you are able to feel back to "normal" without benzos. "Normal" being as normal as any benzo junkie can be without his/her fix, even before we start abusing them :P

Hang in there buddy, plenty of us have been through the same thing and can tell you it's not easy--but it's definitely possible.

Ditto everything said above and Kudos to you for realizing potential dangers ahead of time. As someone who's been there. You're on the easiest benzo to taper off of but do it slowly. It truly is the worst withdrawal I know. Take it slow and you'll be fine.
However, it sounds like you need them for anxiety. I wouldn't quit as K-pins are very effective for anxiety. The hard part is mentally asking yourself if you're taking them for anxiety or...it's a slippery slope. But, if you need em' I wouldn't worry too much as your dosage is seemingly not OOC and you've only been on them for a short time.

thanx for the replies people i apreeciate it alot. ima ask my phycyatris for serequel i heard it was good for anxiety ocd and dipression

As long as you don't run out of meds for whatever reason you shouldn't have to go to the ER to get off of these. That is assuming you are not addicted to the point where you can;t control your taper and need either someone else to administer it to you i.e. your mom or a professional environment like a detox facility.

You can talk to your doctor about tapering off..for SURE. Remind him just how long you've been on them and what dose you are on. Most doctors commend you for wanting to get off a difficult drug like this..and they should help you out. A lot of people would say to switch to valium..but clonazepam has a long half-life anyway..so IMO you can taper your self off without changing drugs.

I will tell you that at the point you are at right now you will have some amount of physical dependency. Luckily for you this is the 1st time ever you detoxed from benzos right? I ask because it seems to get worse every time.. so I say make this the one and only time you ever detox and you'll never have to stress about this garbage again ya know? Is everything cool with your doctor? You could just go about with your appointments like nothing has changed, continue getting the same drug and sized dose and focus on tapering down your self or with the help of friends or family..then you don;t have to rock the boat with him if you change your mind or something.. I dunno actually that idea sounded better in my head lol

i was thinking of tapering myself down myselflf with the klonopin for a while. im not taking none today. im going to start. then ask him 2 switch me to valium. as valium comes in very small doses that dont even equal to klonopin lol. yes this is my first time detoxing off benzos. they work and everything but ive heard the horrible stories people put up with and i dont want to be one of those.
