One of my more experiemental friends has discovered a combination of popping 2 benadryls then drinking. He and several other people have been using this cocktail the last few weekends and they say the effects are similar to Xanax.
Is this, relatively speaking, a safe combination? What is the active ingredient causing this, and is it in any other OTC medications?
Thanks in advance.

The ingredient would be diphenhydramine, and it is also found in combo cold products, as well as OTC sleeping pills. If you are really gonna stoop this low, you should try using doxylamine succinate (unisom et al.). I have found that it has a much stronger effect w/alcohol than benadryl. Also, FYI, most OTC sleeping pills contain 50 mg of diphenhydramine, (2 benadryls) but cost a hell of a lot more than generic benadryl, so if you use OTC sleep meds, it's more cost effective to buy the store brand of benadryl.
