Hi guys and gals, new to the site and must say this is the most informative place I can find for all my opiate questions and wonders...ok so now to the real deal. Out of curiousity, I was wondering what the averagel amount of oxycontin tablets that would be prescribed monthly for severe lower back pain? I was thinking just enough for the month (about 30)? Idk... but someone help me out. Also, what dose would my physician most likely start me at?

I started at 2x40mg a day, then went up to 3x40, then 2x80, now 2x80+2x40mg a day... but my insurance doesn't want to pay them anymore, so I have to lower my tolerance to about 160mg a day.
I'd go with 2x40mg a day, that's fine. Even if you don't need that high amount, it's always good to have more oxy, just save it for desperate times.
Just say to your doctor that you were prescribed dihydrocodeine, morphine or something like that in the past, and that you have got a light opiate tolerance. Like.... 50mg morphine a day. Say that you KNOW that you'd have to start with 2x40mg a day. I'd do that.

OxyContin is generally prescribed 2-3x a day (q8-12 hours).
